THE NEW REALITY OF MISTA

14 Nov 2009
Striker Mista is trying to bounce back after his nightmare debuting season at Deportivo; the Murcian is finally healthy and willing for more after his convincing performance against Getafe FC.

Miguel Angel Ferrer ‘Mista’ is finally finding the path to the goal, the Murcian striker joined Deportivo during last year’s summer window and gave hope in the opening game as he scored against Real Madrid, but then he lived a stormy moment as he spent the major part of the season injured, it was a pubalgy case that erased him from Lotina’s lineups.

He returned during the pre-season and left a positive impression during the friendly games, then he gave a new step backwards due to a groin strain, but found the light at the end of the tunnel at matchday 10, just when Depor was visiting Getafe for la liga. With out injured, Lotina pulled of Mista and the ex-Valencia responded with a goal and an assist. It was just his second liga goal at Depor, but his performance invites to think that he could be an important player in the remaining 28 matches of la liga competition.

Mista himself is also feeling optimistic about his role at the squad, as he explained the situation to Depor Sport, “For me it was a great joy, because it is now when I see the fruits of having lesser vacations, I see now the results of making a solid pre-season. I feel lucky and content for a double motive. First, because we achieved a hard victory, with less players and suffering throughout the game, and later because I was able to score in my first game as starter on this liga. That’s vital for a striker, and especially for me due the things I suffered on the past year.”

The striker was also saying that this is now a personal battle against the injuries, “I couldn’t throw the towel for all the people that trusted in me, I was forced to demonstrate that the injuries were not going to finish with my hopes of enjoying of football. I believe it was a beat against myself, to see who was going to win, if the injuries or me. And it seems that I winning the battle, let’s hope it’s like this.”

At the same time, Mista thinks that the game at Getafe was just the beginning, and that he shouldn’t be content with only making one solid game per season, “Neither we should be satisfied with the work done on the past Saturday. It was just a victory, and we still have to face a long season, therefore we must keep working.”

Finally, Mista gave his opinion about the current situation of hi former club, Atletico Madrid, “With the arrival of Quique (Sánchez Flores), I think the team has changed its face, now the sensations are different. On Saturday they could have achieved a draw against (Real) Madrid within the final minutes. Then, we know that a wounded rival will arrive here, a team willing to abandon the lower spots they don’t deserve. They are coming for the victory and trying to make things difficult to us.”
