CONTROVERSY FOR RIKI

15 Nov 2009
The competition committee in la liga decided to keep the one-game suspension over Riki after been sent off in Getafe; the club is upset because the LFP has already rejected its two appeals and plans to take the case to the Spanish Committee for Sports Discipline.

Deportivo’s officials are upset with la liga authorities for not paying too much attention to the two appeals presented in the case of Riki. The Madrilenian striker was sent off in the match against Getafe with two yellow cards, the first shown for simulating a penalty and later for, supposedly, handling the ball inside of Getafe’s area. This last call is precisely what the club is trying to clarify.

During the week the Galician club presented a video that demonstrates that the striker was trying to head the ball after Filipe’s cross from the left wing was headed first by Juan Rodriguez and then by the Madrilenian attacker. The video presents the plays from four different views, but la liga authorities just dismissed the two appeals arguing that the images on the video were “stumbling and blurred”.

The resolution has irritated Deportivo; the Galician club published the video at canaldeportivo.com and announced that it’s seriously thinking in presenting the case to the Spanish Committee for Sports Discipline. Now Depor has fifteen days to do it and la liga would have to accept the resolution of this new instance.
