IS DEPOR ASPIRING TO THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE?

25 Nov 2009
Eleven coaches were interviewed by newspaper La Opinión A Coruña and all of them gave their opinion about the European chances of Depor. The general feeling is that the Galicians have big chances of ending among the top six places. The following is a resume of their main declarations.

Javier Irureta: “At the slightest slip from the teams at the top, Depor can take advantage of the situation and enter there. It’s one more candidate, both to qualify to the Europa league or to the Champions League".

Paco Chaparro (ex-Betis): “I see them among the first six places, that’s for sure.”

Javier Clemente (former coach of Real Murcia): “Its place is between the third and the sixth position.”

Joaquín Peiró (ex-Malaga): “They will end up there, and waiting until the end to see if they can finish among the top four places.”

Andoni Goikoetxea (former coach of Hercules): “Nobody has gave anything for free to them. Europe is an important challenge and right now they are touching it with both hands. If they follow the same line, then they could achieve the goal without problems.”

Pepe Murcia (current Celta’s coach): “The team has improved a lot within the last three years. That continuity is what has transformed them into an alternative at the top places.”

Mane (ex-Alavés coach): “It’s a team with a strong base that has been working hard since some time ago, tough I don’t know what’s their limit. They are demonstrating that with humility, hard work and order a lot of things can be achieved.  For me it isn’t a surprise to see them up there.”

Iñaki Sáez (ex-coach of Spain U-21 squad): “Two key ingredients for them: the well done job and the regularly. It’s a team that knows what they are doing.”

José Luis Mendilibar (current coach of Valladolid): “They should continue like this, with the same philosophy of going game after game, without losing their minds.”

Juande Ramos (former coach of Sevilla and Real Madrid): “If they keep competing like this, they will surely be an aspirant to Europe.”

Sergio Kresic (current coach of Las Palmas): “If they don’t put limits to themselves, then is possible to go beyond their possibilities.”
