The two preferred strikers of Lotina, Riki and Lassad, will miss the last two matches of 2009, both are out for injury reasons and will return until January. Now Lotina has to find other solutions for his striking zone.

On Monday it was confirmed that striker Riki has sustained a stress fracture (tear in a muscle) on his left thigh, problem that the Madrilenian suffered on Friday’s training session and that left him out of the clash with Barcelona FC.  The injury will heal in two or three weeks, which means that the ex-Getafe man will miss the last two liga clashes of the year: UD Almeria and Valencia FC.

Just hours after knowing the results, the Madrilenian attacker talked to reporters about the issue, “I was feeling fine, without pain, and this is a setback that nobody likes to live, now we must look forward. It’s true that we are more complicated in attack due to the casualties, but Adrian scored against Barcelona on Saturday and the work of both Mista and Bodipo is important, so they can do great things.”

It is the second casualty at Depor’s offensive line in a matter of two weeks as Lassad Nouioui suffered a similar problem in the past visit to Racing Santander. The Tunisian will return until January and will also miss Sunday’s visit to Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos and the home match against the Valencians.

Both casualties are important for coach Miguel Angel Lotina, mainly because both strikers are the ones with more minutes in la liga, Riki is the 10th Depor’s player with more participation so far (765 minutes) and the match with Barcelona just represented his first missed game of the liga season, while Lassad is 12th in the same list (479 minutes). Combined, this duo has meant four goals in liga for Deportivo.

Now Lotina must find the solutions to fill the gaps for the upcoming two games in liga, the most obvious choices are Adrian López and Miguel Ángel Ferrer ‘Mista’, precisely the two attackers that were starters in the last game with Barcelona. Murcian Mista made convincing presentations against Getafe and Atletico Madrid, but was more disappeared in the recent clashes against Racing and Barca.

Meanwhile, on the past Sunday Asturian Adrián just completed his first appearance as starter since the setback at Valladolid (matchday 08). Despite that Deportivo barely attacked in that game, the young forward had a decent performance and even scored the goal in a quick play in which he was faster than Puyol, Pique and Víctor Valdes.

There are other three choices that Lotina could use as an alternative, the first one is Rodolfo Bodipo, the others represent midfielders that can be adjusted for the job: Juan Carlos Valerón and Pablo Alvarez.  but these choices don’t seem to be very probable, because the three of them haven’t had too many minutes in the liga campaign.

Equatoguinean Bodipo has only performed during 3 matches on the liga season (56 minutes), while Canarian Valerón played for the last time as a starter in liga during the 2-3 loss with RCD Espanyol and only accumulates  340 minutes on the competition.  Finally, ‘The Shark’ has more minutes on the campaign than the other two players (511), but his last appearance as starter occurred at the end of October during the 1-0 win at Tenerife (matchday 06).
