GUARDADO DISCARDED FOR ALMERIA

12 Dec 2009
On Friday it was confirmed that Andrés Guardado is the fifth casualty for the game at Almeria, this after the Mexican wasn’t able to train with the squad due to a thigh problem. It means that Lotina faces Sunday’s game with important absences.

Huge problems for coach Miguel Angel Lotina ahead of Sunday’s match against UD Almeria; at the beginning of the week it was confirmed that Riki was joining Lassad in the list of casualties due to a groin problem (stress fracture), a few days later midfielder Juca was discarded as it was confirmed that the Brazilian suffered an ankle sprain in the past game with Barcelona.

Now Guardado is joining the list of casualties as he became the fifth injured player at the team, the Mexican was dragging a muscular problem on both thighs after making a huge physical effort against Barca, on Friday he couldn’t  train with the rest of the players and the doctors already discarded him for the match.

This means that Lotina only has 18 players available for the game, exactly the number that should compose the list of picked men: Aranzubia, Manu; Manuel Pablo, Laure, Colotto, Zé Castro, Lopo, Piscu, Filipe; Antonio Tomás, Sergio, Juan Rodríguez, Pablo Álvarez, Valerón, Iván Pérez; Mista, Adrián and Bodipo. A possibility is to see the Basque coach picking Fabril’s Juan Dominguez as the 19th option, actually the young midfielder was already called for the last training before the game (Saturday, 10h30 CET).

Despite the casualties, Lotina should have enough options to present a competitive squad at the Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos. A very probable alternative to replace Guardado is Iván Pérez, the only left-footed player that still available and that doesn’t play a liga game since matchday 07 as he was a starter against Sevilla FC (1-0). This choice means to keep the 4-3-2-1 system, with Adrian up front and Mista joining the Galician boy in the line of playmakers.

Another possibility is to see Juan Carlos Valerón in the starting eleven, El Flaco doesn’t play as starter in liga since matchday 03 (2-3 Vs RCD Espanyol). The Canarian could be taken the spot of Mista in the 4-3-2-1 scheme or could even perform as a “solo playmaker” if the coach decides to return to the 4-2-3-1 system. Pablo Alvarez could also have a spot in the game too, even as a left winger, role that he fulfilled in the Copa clash with Real Murcia.

A fact that was inviting to think in the appearance of Valerón as starter was that the Canarian showed up in the press room of Abegondo after Friday’s training session. However he didn’t want to confirm if he will be a starter or not, he just said that “Everybody likes to play and when you don’t do it, it’s sadder, but is normal. I always try to be prepared to play and want to do my best effort, if I don’t play, then I need to support my team mates from the outside. I’m conscious that the team is living a good moment and I try to do my best effort in the trainings and to be prepared when the coach needs me.”

Meanwhile, Iván Pérez said to La Voz de Galicia that what he wants is to play, “Now I’m feeling fine and wishing to have some minutes, because I’m working fine and think that can help the squad from the pitch and not only from the outside. I am not asking to be a starter, but to have minutes in order to gain the pace, to prepare myself and be a better player.”

BODIPO TALKS ABOUT BETIS
Other player in the spotlight was Rodolfo Bodipo, since Wednesday it is rumoured that he might be transferred to Real Betis, but on Friday he was saying that there’s no final decision about his exit to the Andalusian team, “This subject has been carried by my agent. A lot of news are coming out, and until things are clear, nothing will be decided; for the moment is too soon to decide, because we have to wait. Deportivo has said nothing to me, neither if they want a final transfer or a loan. The calls of my agent are personal stuff, he has said some things to me, and we will see what happens if something concrete appears. I have a special feeling for Betis, it’s the team from my city, but we have to wait, they are other names, it’s a matter of my agent and me.”
