THE FIRST ROUND OF FABRIL AT TERCERA

27 Dec 2009
The first round at the Galician group of Tercera División is near to end, and Fabril still fighting to end first as it’s currently tied in points with Cerceda. Ramallo’s team is the second best defence of the group and the third best offensive line.

Very positive first round for Deportivo at Tercera División; the exit of Ciudad de Santiago has cut the number of participants at the Galician group to nineteen, which means that only thirty-six games will be played on the season. To mention that Depor B faced Ciudad Santiago in the opening day and the game ended in a 1-1 draw, result that was later invalidated as the Galician rival was disqualified from the competition.

At this point of the season only one matchday is remaining to end the first round, and Deportivo is at the top of the table tied in points with Cerceda, three points over third place Coruxo and seven above fifth place Ourense. Four teams goes directly to the promotion playoffs and it’s very important to end first in the group, because it means to only play a single playoff round against one of the other 17 first places that are searching the promotion at Tercera División.

Otherwise, Depor would have to play three playoffs rounds against the other second, third and fourth places plus the losers of the initial round between the first places. Right now the leaders of the other 17 groups are: Marino de Luanco (41 points), Noja (37), Amorebieta (35), Hospitalet (42), Torrelano Illice (35), Rayo Vallecano B (37), Valladolid B (40), Motril (39), CD Alcala (41), Santa Eulalia (37), Las Palmas Atletico (42), Lorca (46), CD Badajoz (42), Tudelano (41), Haro (43), Zaragoza B (46) and La Roda (35)

Of the 363 teams that are currently competing in the division, only five are still undefeated: Cantabrian club Noja, Catalan team Hospitalet, La Rioja club Oyonesa, Extremadura-based team Jerez and Valladolid B. Also, of the current clubs at Primera División, only five have their current B team in playoff position at Tercera: Valladolid B (1st), Zaragoza B (1st), Getafe B (3rd), Almeria B (2nd) and Deportivo B (2nd).

Returning to the numbers of Fabril, the team coached by Tito Ramallo has won 12 of the 17 games disputed so far and has only suffered two defeats, it also presents the third best scoring record with 28 goals scored and has only ended scoreless in one occasion, precisely during the visit to the other leader of the group Cerceda (0-1 at matchday 13). To mention that 10 of the 28 goals (35.71% of the total) were conquered after a set-piece action (6 corner-kicks, 2 free-kicks and 2 penalty attempts).

But as it happens at the first team, the main characteristic of the squad is its solid defense, Depor B has only allowed fourteen goals after seventeen matches and has clinched six clean sheets: 1-0 at Negreida (matchday 02), 2-0 Vs Ourense (matchday 06), 2-0 at Santa Comba (matchday 11), 1-0 Vs Celtiga (matchday 12), 1-0 Vs Bergantiños (matchday 14) and 1-0 Vs Rapido de Bouzas (matchday 14).

However, the mark of Depor B is not among the best 20 defensive marks at Tercera División, department that is led by Hospitalet (4 goals allowed), Oyonesa (5), Valladolid B (5), Barrio Cristo (7), Motril (7), Jerez (7), Haro (7), La Muela (8), CD Alcala (8), Badajoz (8), Santa Eulalia (9) and San Rafael (9).

About the numbers playing at Abegondo, Fabril has played eight games at home and so far has clinched the 79.16% of the points in dispute, it only dropped points during the visit of Cultural Areas (1-1, matchday 04), while the only defeat  at home was against Narón Balompié (1-2, matchday 16). Ramallo’s team will be ending the first round on January 3rd, 2010 as it will pay a visit to sixth place Alondras, and the team will start the second round resting as the match against Ciudad Santiago will not be played due to the disqualification of the rival.
