FABRIL IS THE REINFORCEMENT

03 Feb 2010
Deportivo wasn’t able to sign any player in the winter window, now Miguel Angel Lotina will have to search for solutions at Deportivo B in order to cover the casualties due to the injuries. Starting with Seoane, who might be picked for the trip to Malaga.

Lotina knew it was going to be difficult to sign a replacement for Filipe, actually he was asking for a substitute for Lafita since the season started and the problem was never resolved, but he was crossing his fingers hoping for a miracle, but this time it didn’t happen and now the Basque coach will have to improvise in order to cover the long list of casualties affecting his team.

There are two possible ways, the first one is to relocate his players on the pitch, as he did against Real Madrid with the repositioning of Manuel Pablo as left-back defender or Pablo Alvarez as left winger. The second way is to trust in the youngsters at Fabril B. In the end it seems that the Basque man will choose a combination between these two possibilities.

It calls the attention the importance that Deportivo B is having in recent times; between the years 1999 and 2005 only four ex-Fabril’s members played with the first squad during an official game: Fran, Dani Mallo, Xisco and Carlos Pita. After the exit of Javier Irureta in 2005, Joaquín Caparrós arrived and the number grew to five players in two years: Iago Iglesias, Iván Carril, Senel, Piscu and Chapi.

And the arrival of Lotina just accelerated the process as the ex-Real Sociedad coach has used thirteen Fabril’s players during the official games played in the last two and a half seasons: Piscu, Chapi, Fabricio, Laure, Juanan, Lassad, Xisco, Iván Pérez, Juan Dominguez, Manu, David Añon, Dani Rodriguez and David Rochela.

Actually, in last week’s Copa match against Sevilla FC the Meñaka-born coach used eight Fabril’s products during the game: Manu, Laure, Seoane, Piscu, Rochela, Dani, Iván Pérez and Juan Domínguez. That was the first time in twelve years in which eight players formed at Depor B were part of the lineup in one single game.

The precedent occurred on the season 1997/98, it happened in the visit to Real Valladolid on February 14th, 1998. The coach was José Manuel Corral and was having several casualties due to the injuries and the international compromises of some players, in the end Depor lost the game (0-1), but played with Fran, Aira, Pinillos, Padín and David in the starting eleven, plus Maikel, Deus and Toni, who later entered as substitutes.

Now Lotina has to choose the possible replacements for Filipe at the left-back position, for the moment the immediate response was to relocate Manuel Pablo, but the coach is also studying to use Diego Seoane on that position, something demonstrated by the fact that the youngster started to train with the first squad on Tuesday’s training session.

And it’s that Lotina has a clear picture about the importance of the B squad, as he said after the Copa game with Sevilla, “The youngsters of the B squad played with audacity and boldness. Let’s hope they will continue like this, because thank God, Deportivo is now basing its work in the B squad due to the financial problems at the club.”

In the meantime, the youngsters at the first team are trying to seize the chance. They keep a special friendship between them, usually they hang on after the trainings and share the car when they attend to Abegondo. “The B squad must continue to grow and is good to see more youngsters playing in each game.” was the opinion of Juan Dominguez after the Copa clash at the Sánchez Pizjuán.

“Fabril’s players are growing and we all want to be promoted at the same time Laure added, while Lassad said that “It has been seeing that Fabril has good youngsters and that’s perfect for everybody.”. Finally, Iván Pérez said that, “I don’t know if what’s happening right now is caused by the change of the policy at the club, but if we wouldn’t be prepared for the job, I’m sure they wouldn’t be counting with us.”
