Q&A WITH BODIPO

10 Feb 2010
Rodolfo Bodipo gave an interview to newspaper La Opinión A Coruña; The Equatoguinean attacker is now optimistic about his near future after starting the season as a discard of Lotina. He also hopes to see Depor ending the Liga campaign in Europe.
Q: Was the game at La Rosaleda your best game on the season?
"Well, I am satisfied with my individual work. It was a pity for us to stay almost an hour playing with ten men, because with eleven I think the game was for us. We were creating scoring opportunities and attacking by the side. It was a real shame.
Q: Were you forced to make a dark job when Depor was forced to play with ten?
A: When we had a situation of eleven men against eleven men, my ambition was to try to shot on target in the first opportunity, because we were missing a lot of crosses. It was important to make a quick play and try to shot as fast at it was possible. Then, when you end with one less man, what you try to do is to hold on the ball, oxygenate the team and to see everybody else more relaxed. It is important not to lose the ball, especially to see the team feeling more calmed.
Q: Were you surprised to be a starter?
A: I was surprised in some sense. I try to work to see the coach happy with me. Lately I'm counting more and the truth is that I work hard during the week to see him counting with me as much as possible.
Q: Do you feel useful again?
A: Everyone feels bad when you don’t feel useful. The month of January was good for me, because I played a lot of matches and I needed to feel like a football player. I have never bowed my head and let’s see if all the work pays off for me from now on.
Q: Last year neither you counted for the coach and ended playing as a starter, history repeats itself?
A: I do not know. It seems I can only say that I shall do my best. I know that if I still having the confidence of coach, then the goals will arrive. I will give everything, as always. Now I am reaping the fruits of labor, something possible since I never lower my head and always trusted in my abilities.
Q: Did you needed to feel like one more player at the squad?
A: I always felt like that at the changing room, because my teammates made me feel that way. There were times when the coach relied more on other players and I had to prove my skills. Right now I'm happy because I'm enjoying of more minutes and that's what I get for the body.
Q: Did you ever feel powerless?
A: When you see your teammates on TV on every Sunday, you feel sad, because you want to contribute. You feel less important because you want to add things, and for whatever reason can’t do it. At that time the coach was trusting in others, the team was fine and I had to wait for my chance.
Q: Do you trust in having continuity from now on?
A: I'll do everything possible to have continuity, because I know that if I have that, then my time will come. You never can blame me for not been a professional and a good team mate, both when things are going well as when things are bad. I had a bad streak and it was important to work in order to overcome it. I am grateful to my colleagues for encouraging me in bad times. I will continue working to make things complicated for the coach.
Q: How is the team morale after a month of January so hard for the results and for the injuries?
A: The key of this season is the union at the changing room. Nobody tries to excel over the other. Filipe’s injury was a very hard blow. Personally, it affected me a lot, for the impression of the injury and then because Filipe is a good friend of mine. He had a pretty nice immediate future. The big teams were looking at him and there was the World Cup. So much pain for him.
Q: After so many matchdays at the top six places, would be a big blow to not enter into Europe?
A: Nobody is thinking that it would be a failure. We follow a line. We are going Sunday after Sunday, with clear ideas. After all the fight on this campaign, we are not thinking that we are going to end outside of Europe.
Q: Whatever happens in the end, you are surpassing all expectations.
A: Yes. In addition, we have had many casualties and very important ones, but the team has always fought for the goals. When the players injured can get recovered, I hope that Deportivo, in the last mile, will be where it should be.
Q: What do you ask to this second half of the season?
A: At the collective level, especially to not have more injury cases. Then the numbers are going to put each one in his place and I hope we will end in Europe. And in a personal level, to not ever low the arms and keep working. If I continue like this, I know my time will come.
