WHO SHOULD PLAY AT THE LEFT WING?

12 Feb 2010
Lotina said that Guardado will play against Espanyol, but still has to decide if the Mexican should be a starter or not, and with Pablo Alvarez suspended, the question now is who should start the game attacking by the left wing.

On Thursday the competition committee in la liga rejected the appeal of Deportivo for Pablo Alvarez after the player was sent off against Malaga, the Galician club has the option to present a second appeal and also to ask to freeze the suspension, but on Thursday it was informed that the club will present the appeal but won’t ask to freeze the decision.

Only in a few opportunities the competition committee has lifted a suspension after two appeals, and in this case no surprises are expected. Therefore it should be expected that Depor’s winger won’t be able to play against RCD Espanyol. ‘’The Shark’ performed as a playmaker against Malaga FC, and was one of the candidates to start at the left wing in Sunday’s game at the Cornellá-El Prat stadium.

Now there are only two natural candidates for the job: Andrés Guardado and Iván Pérez. The Mexican should be the favourite as he is one of the main references of the team in attack, but the ex-Atlas is just coming out from an injury and Lotina has said that he isn’t ready to perform for the fully ninety minutes, while El Ratoncito Pérez hasn’t convinced yet with his performance, at least playing at that position.

Other option is to play with Riki on that function or even to repeat with Adrian, who did it against Malaga, but both players are right-footed and the attacks of the team loss depth in that way. What seems clear so far is that Laure will repeat at the left-back position as Lotina was pretty content with his performance at La Rosaleda.

On Thursday, Lotina emphasised the defensive job work during the training session and proved with the same scheme used against Malaga: Manuel Pablo at the right, Laure and the left and the duo Colotto-Lopo at the centre, while all appoints that Juca and Antonio Tomás will perform at midfield.
