LOTINA PLANS CHANGES IN THE LINEUP

17 Feb 2010
Depor’s coach hasn’t tested yet any lineup for the upcoming clash against Xérez, but he already announced that the most logical thing is to allow the return of Riki, Pablo Alvarez, Guardado and even Juan Dominguez as starters.

On Tuesday Deportivo started to prepare the liga clash against CD Xérez (Riazor, Saturday, 18h00 CET), for the occasion coach Miguel Angel Lotina will not be able to count with Antonio Tomás, who was sent off against RCD Espanyol, but will recover Pablo Alvarez, who missed the clash against the Catalans after been sent off in the previous game with Malaga.

All appoints that the Basque coach is planning a ‘mini revolution’ in the starting lineup, with at least five modifications, starting with the return of Juan Rodriguez to the double pivote function teaming up with Brazilian Juca, while the big surprise could be the appearance of Juan Dominguez in the playmaking function. The other three modifications involve the return of Andrés Guardado to the left wing, Pablo Alvarez to the right and Riki to the striker’s role.

Lotina hasn’t tested yet any lineup, but already sent the message, as he said on Tuesday’s press conference, “The logical thing is to see the return of Guardado to the starting squad, then we have Riki, who has been playing during the last two weeks, Pablo Alvarez… It’s the logical thing, though I haven’t decided yet, because first I want to see all of them during tomorrow training session.”

“Juan Dominguez and Guardado were fine the other day, I liked both. Guardado gave some presence on the pitch though we were passing through our worst moment in the game, while Juan added some depth, with two or three passes inside the area and is probable that he might start, but I haven’t decided yet. The other day Guardado wasn’t a starter, because if he falls injured again, I wouldn’t be able to sleep, not even the nap, it was a precaution measure.” He added.

Also, Lotina commented the current situation of striker Mista, who might be returning to the list, “Let's see how Mista is during the trainings. The sensations are good; today we worked in small spaces; he has a big quality and has done a very good workout. Let's see how he trains the next day. Is likely to see him returning if he continues at this level "

And the coach even mentioned the status of Lassad, who is currently working in France, “I spoke to him on Friday and was really content. He is working in a double shift and today was starting to train on the pitch. I will talk to him on Friday and will decide if he should return next Wednesday or if I will leave him there for the full week. He said that he is already recovered, if he is fine he should be ready to play. Lassad will be good for us, because when he is fit to play, he can add quality to the team.”

Finally, the Meñaka-born coach gave a valuation of the current state of the team, “We miss some football, but can’t look at the casualties as the problem; individually, we all have to give something more. Truly we are missing a little of everything, but a lot of our problems are happening because we have lost a little bit of our football. In the first round all the easy things were simpler for us, and now we are not doing what it seemed to be important; we need to regain that level.”
