The new injury of Riki has awaken all kind of comments inside of Deportivo, and it’s that this is the seventh injury of the ex-Getafe player within the last season and a half. New scans will be made on Tuesday, but he is already discarded for Villarreal.

Iván Sánchez-Rico Soto ‘Riki’ is living a real nightmare with the injuries, the Madrilenian striker was replaced at the start of the second half against Xérez due to a muscular problem and now accumulates seven different injuries suffered within the last year and a half. All started in the first matchday of the past season as he sustained as stress fracture injury in the game with Real Madrid (2-1). He entered as a replacement and only lasted twelve minutes on the pitch.

He returned until matchday 05, then after playing sixty-four minutes in the 1-4 loss at Atletico Madrid (matchday 11), he got injured during a training session (patellar tendon) and missed the clash with Athletic Bilbao (3-1 win) and returned in the next week to appear for twenty-eight minutes against Almeria (1-0). Then a muscular problem on the abductor zone of his knee forced him to miss three games.

Riki ended the season 2008/09 with an ankle injury that forced him to miss three more matches, then he played in the last six liga confrontations though he did it as a substitute. The ex-Getafe started strongly in the new campaign, participating in the first twelve games, but then a groin problem forced him to miss the clashes with Barcelona (matchday 13), Almeria (matchday 14) and Valencia (matchday 15).

And the real problems for Riki started on this year, the Madrilenian attacker played twenty-four minutes in the first game of the year against Real Zaragoza (matchday 16), but in the next confrontation (in Copa against Valencia) he fell down injured, again with an adductor injury that left him out of action for a month. He returned in matchday 20 playing sixteen minutes against Real Madrid, then he performed as substitute against Malaga (matchday 21) and Espanyol (matchday 22).

Now Riki has suffered his seventh injury in one and a half year as he was returning to be a starter against Xérez. New scans will be made during this day, but it isn’t expected that he will return soon. The physical trainer of the team, Eduardo Domínguez, has said that the problem with Riki is related to the characteristics of his muscles, “He suffers this setbacks due to his muscular condition and his physical characteristics, because he is an explosive player.” While Doctor Ramón Barral was still trying to explain what happened, “Medically it is hard to explain, because he spent three weeks training without problems.” He said on Saturday.

.Lotina was aware of this situation, that’s why Riki has spent more than a year without playing a full match, the last time was against RCD Mallorca in liga (February 8, 2009). On this season the Madrilenian has played more than eighty minutes in four opportunities, but never the full ninety minutes.

However, Depor’ coach was expressing his frustration and surprise with the case, “I do not understand Riki’s injury. With his adductor injury we have been going forward and backwards for two months. First he recovers and then falls again. I don’t understand. I'm very worried. He is a very important player and is not normal. We'll have to see if he has any problem in the mouth, I don’t know, it is not normal, he is a player who gives us many positive things."

And it’s that Riki has been an important attacker in the schemes of Lotina, because with the impressive goal that he scored against Xérez, the Aranjuez-born striker is now the Pichichi of Depor in la liga with four goals added to his tally. Besides, he is the more effective striker at the squad with one goal scored every 219 minutes, as a way of comparison Mista scores one goal every 418 minutes and Adrián one every 592 minutes, while Bodipo still scoreless in la liga (395 minutes on the liga campaign).
