The Basque coach and president Lendoiro have a verbal agreement for one more season, the deal would include to keep the base of the current squad and to sign at least two reinforcements (right winger and midfielder).

The rumour appeared on Wednesday and was confirmed throughout Thursday; Depor’s president Augusto César Lendoiro and coach Miguel Angel Lotina already have a verbal agreement that will allow the continuity of the Basque coach for an additional year. The agreement was reached on Tuesday’s night during a meeting between the president, the coach, his agent Iñaki Ibáñez, and other officials including second coach José Luis Ribera.

On Thursday Depor Sport announced the existence of the verbal agreement for one more season, while newspaper La Voz De Galicia talked to Iñaki Ibáñez, who didn’t want to give too many details about the conversations, “I don’t like to make final valorizations when the things aren’t closed yet. I just can tell you that I speak to Lendoiro three or four times in a year.”

The papers point out that the new contract could even be signed before Sunday, day in which Lotina will complete 100 Primera matches at Deportivo. But for the moment Lendoiro is busier trying to negotiate the participation of La Coruña in the candidacy of Spain for a future FIFA World Cup, last night he was having a diner in Santiago with Ángel Villar, the president of the Spanish federation.

Just a couple of months ago it seemed impossible the renewal of Lotina, at the time it was said that the ex-Celta coach was worried because he was thinking that Deportivo was going to sell its main players, precisely that has been one of the points of discussions during the negotiations. According to the media the Basque manager conditioned his continuity to two things: that Deportivo will keep the base of the current squad and that some reinforcements will be signed.

According to La Voz de Galicia, Lotina is asking for at least two new incorporations: a new right winger that will cover the casualty of Lafita and a new playmaker to solve the absence of Verdú. Actually, some names have already started to appear in the papers. On Wednesday it was published by Sportpaper Marca that the club was interested in Julio Álvarez (28, RCD Mallorca), a Galician right winger that begun his career at Fabril.

But the sporting director of the club, Richard Moar, denied this possibility to Riazor.org, “For the moment there is nothing, truly we have commented inside the club how well he is playing, but we neither talked to his father nor to his agent. He is a kid with great quality and plays in a position that will be beneficial for us. But right now the important thing is to renew the coach, soon we will fulfill that and later we will start working with the reinforcements.”

Therefore, the renewal of Lotina should be signed and announced in the coming weeks, it will be the fourth season for the Meñaka-born trainer at Deportivo. It isn’t know yet if the new deal will include special renewal clauses, but it has been commented that Lotina is even already planning the upcoming pre-season stage, which could take place in Switzerland as some sources are speculating.
