Against the powerful Sevilla, Lotina is thinking in switching the system into a 4-3-2-1, this in order to seize the abilities of Guardado. Meanwhile the rival will play without Luis Fabiano and Fernando Navarro.

Coach Miguel Angel Lotina already announced that he is seriously thinking in using a 4-3-3 system against Sevilla (4-3-2-1 for others). The idea is to take advantage of the velocity of Andrés Guardado and the capacity of Pablo Alvarez to perform at the centre. The scheme will keep the same defensive zone of recent games, with Aranzubia, Manuel Pablo, Lopo, Colotto and Laure.

The changes start at midfield, with the reappearance of the “triple pivote figure”, Juan Rodriguez and Antonio Tomás have a secure place there, while the third spot could be for Fabril’s Juan Dominguez or for Iván Pérez. Then the scheme involves the appearance of Guardado and Pablo Alvarez as the two playmakers in the formation, this scheme means that the duo will have freedom to move between the wings and the centre.

Finally, Lotina still has to decide who will be the central attacker, the main options are Bodipo and Adrián, the first one hasn’t scored yet in liga, while the Asturian hasn’t scored since December, at least in liga, because on the past week he did it with Spain’s U-21 squad. Perhaps the bad moment of both attackers gives the feeling that Lassad might have a chance to be a starter, the Tunisian played the last ten minutes against Tenerife after a series of hamstring problems that keep him out for three months.

Lotina has only used the 4-3-2-1 as the starting system in three occasions during this season, and all of those matches took place at the Riazor: Sevilla (1-0), Barcelona (1-3) and Athletic Bilbao (3-1). Now he is thinking in using it for the first time away from home. However, it isn’t a new system for the players, because Lotina usually implements the figure during the second halves, like it happened against Tenerife as the system was used for fifteen minutes after Juan Dominguez replaced Pablo Alvarez and before the entry of Lassad.

Second coach Jose Luis Ribera told to La Voz de Galicia that the main reason to switch the system is to seize the abilities of Guardado, “If he is playing in a 4-2-3-1, then he performs towards the wing and even up front, therefore he usually receives the ball with his back against the goal. But if he is a little delayed and playing towards the centre, then he has more space in front of him.”
“Guardado, in that position, has power and knows how to take advantage of it. When we have played like that, he has performed there, because he is a powerful player that defensively works hard. There’s people who refers to this style as a 4-3-2-1, others 4-3-3 and others 4-5-1, it depends of the characteristics of the players. Because if Lassad is in, he is more a striker than a midfielder, and if Juan Rodriguez is in, he is more a midfielder rather than a striker.” He added

Also, on Tuesday a squad conformed by the “less habitual players” of the first team –Valerón, Mista, Lassad, Iván Pérez Piscu, Manu and Zé Castro- played a 40-minutes match against a team composed by Fabril’s players. The first team won the mini-encounter with goals from Mista and Iván Pérez. This match was ordered by Lotina in order to improve the match fitness of the players coming out from injuries.

At Sevilla, the news is that left-back defender Fernando Navarro is suspended after picking his fifth yellow card of the season against Real Madrid, while striker Luis Fabiano will be reserved for next Tuesday’s clash against CSKA Moscow for the UEFA Champions League. The other casualty is defender Sergio Sánchez, who has a cardiac problem, while Belgian winger Tom De Mul will probably miss the game since coach Manolo Jiménez hasn’t used him yet in la liga.

Brazilian Luis Fabiano spent the last two weeks in his country trying to overcome a chest injury, and he joined the trainings on Wednesday, but the doctor of the club told that he will be reserved for the Champions League clash.  Meanwhile, right-back Abdoulay Konko should be fit to face Depor, the Marseille-born player was out injured for two months –knee adductor- and was returning against Real Madrid, but was forced to leave the game at minute 20 due to a muscular problem, new scans have determined that the problem is minimal and therefore he could be playing against Deportivo.

Other three players that are ready to perform on Saturday are midfielders Christian Romaric, Renato and defender Sébastien Squilacci, Ivorian Romaric is returning after suspension, Brazilian Renato missed the match with Real Madrid due to a leg bound, while French international Squilacci is finally fit to play after sustaining an ankle injury on his left leg during the game against Atletico Madrid (January), it is expected that the ex-Lyon will cover the casualty of Fernando Navarro against Depor.
