THE 4-3-3 OF LOTINA

11 Mar 2010
Lotina already started the experiments in order to switch the system for the upcoming liga matches; for the moment the only doubt is who will cover the two playmaking functions.

On Wednesday coach Miguel Angel Lotina started the tests with the new system, the 4-3-3 that he announced the day before. Manuel Pablo (sinusitis) and Juan Dominguez (muscular problem) weren’t part of the experiments as both were out of the session. The new scheme seems to be defined and the only thing left to do is to decide who will cover the two playmaking functions.

The defensive line tested was composed by Dani Aranzubia at the goal, Diego Seoane performing at the right-back position, Diego Colotto and Albert Lopo at the centre and Laure at the left side. This formation should be the one to be used at the Sánchez Pizjuán, with the exception of Manuel Pablo, who should be returning in order to pick the spot at the right.

At midfield, Lotina tested with a line of three pivotes composed by Juan Rodríguez, Antonio Tomás and Andrés Guardado; as second coach Ribera said it before, the new position of the Mexican winger will allow him to play from behind in order to take advantage of his velocity. The other position that is clear is the one of the central attacker, which was for Adrián.

The doubt is who will cover the two playmaker’s role that will perform behind the Asturian striker, on Wednesday Lotina tested between Valerón, Lassad, Pablo Álvarez, Iván Pérez and Mista, while Juan Domínguez should be also considered for the job. The final decision should be taken on Friday, just one day before the match against Sevilla.
