MARKET NEWS: SAUL AND A NEW MEXICAN PLAYER

01 Apr 2010
It seems that president Lendoiro is targeting a new Mexican reinforcement and already started to make the contacts with the agents, while Elche’s winger Saúl told to Sportpaper AS that he wants to play for Deportivo.

President Augusto César Lendoiro already started to make the moves for the summer window of 2010; on the past weekend he hosted Mexican agent Matías Bunge, who watched the match against Getafe at the Riazor and later had a meeting with the president in order to study future movements. According to Sportpaper Marca Depor’s president is so content with the performance of Guardado that he wants a new Mexican “pearl” for the coming season.

The source claims that Lendoiro has contacted several agents in the North American country and that already targeted three prospects:

1- Giovani dos Santos (20-years-old, Tottenham Hotspurs): An old wish of Lendoiro, but a difficult mission to accomplish since Tottenham Hotspur paid €6 million for the playmaker/right winger. Therefore the only way to get him would be a loan operation; something that, in the other hand, shouldn’t be difficult as the Mexican has barely played for the Spurs; actually he is currently playing on loan at Turkish club Galatasaray SK.

2- Moisés Velasco (20-years-old, Toluca): Young playmaker emerged from the U-17 squad of Mexico that won the FIFA World Cup. He debuted at the Mexican first division in the year 2006 and achieved the title with Toluca for the Torneo Apertura 2008. The problem is that he isn’t a normal starter at Toluca and has only played 96 minutes in the current Torneo Bicentenario 2010, but his skills are calling the attention of the scouts. In 2007 Moisés played a game in Copa Libertadores against Peruvian Cienciano and scored the winning goal (2-1).

3- Edgar Pacheco (20-years-old, Atlas): Multifunctional player that can perform at the right and the left wing, plus the centre of the attack and even at the playmaking function. He was linked with Getafe and Racing de Avellaneda (Argentina), but has remained in Atlas de Guadalajara, he is considered a skilful player with the ability to shoot from long-distance. Pacheco has played in the 12 matches disputed so far in the current Torneo Bicentenario 2010 (9 as starter, 756 minutes) and has scored one goal. His agent is Matías Bunge and the cost of the operation is around the €3 million.

THE CASE OF SAUL
Right winger Saúl Fernández García (24-years-old, Elche CF) seems close to join Deportivo for the season 2010/2011. He is ending contract with Elche and already rejected a renewal offer, actually he told to Sportpaper AS that he will love to sign for Depor, “I will love to sign for Deportivo. Besides the two giants clubs in the division, for me, it is one of the best clubs at Primera División. It’s a very attracting club for anyone and especially for a player who comes from Segunda. It’s a great opportunity, it is attracting for anyone.”

"Three months are still remaining in the league and I'm focused on my team, but I think it's time to take important decisions in my career and my club must understand it. If I go out of Elche it will be for something important, and I hope to have a new chance in the summer to return to Primera." He added

Saúl begun his career at Sporting Gijón and already played at Primera for Malaga CF and UD Levante, reason why he already knows Manu and Juan Rodriguez. The winger joined Elche on the season 2008 and since then he has played 61 games (4,700 minutes) scoring eleven goals. In the current Segunda campaign Saúl has played 26 games (1,918 minutes) and has scored three goals.

The problem for this signing is not the competence of other clubs, but the conflict with the agent of the player. Saúl doesn’t want to talk to his agent, José Plaza, and is trying to negotiate by his own, but the agent already sent a fax to Deportivo arguing that he is the only one that can negotiate the future of the winger, reason why the Galician club has been forced to negotiate in two fronts.
