RIKI AND HIS SCORING AVERAGE

02 Apr 2010
Riki scored a goal against Getafe and became the 42nd player in la liga to have reached the mark of five goals on the current liga season. And in terms of goal per minute the Madrilenian is 13th at Primera with one goal scored every 184 minutes.

The poor offensive numbers of Deportivo have been a common issue on recent seasons, and this time it isn’t different as Depor has only scored 32 goals in la liga campaign, which is only the 13th best mark at Primera División, only above UD Almeria (31), Sporting Gijón (31), Racing Santander (30), Real Valladolid (30), Tenerife FC (29), Osasuna (26) and RCD Espanyol (21).

Actually, before Sunday (matchday 29), Depor and RCD Espanyol were the only two Primera clubs without a player with a least five goals added to his tally during the current liga tournament. And in the game against Getafe the Galicians finally joined the group as Riki scored for the fifth time on the liga season thanks to his header during a corner-kick of Guardado.

In this way the Madrilenian striker became the 42nd player in la liga with at least five goals scored on the liga campaign, it doesn’t seems important, but it takes an interesting twist at the moment of analysing the averages. And it’s that Riki has only performed for 920 minutes on the season, which means an average of one goal every 184 minutes.

It isn’t a bad  average, actually is the 13th among the 42 players with at least five goals on the liga season. It’s even better than the average of other more “famous” strikers like Kanoute (197.50), Nilmar (201.44) Rossi (227.43), Negredo (236.86) or Mata (317.29).

What happens is that Riki has spent the major part of the season injured, he was fine at the beginning, but at the end of the year 2009 he started to have muscular problems, in January of 2010 he even had to be replaced twice: first in the Copa clash with Valencia, and later in the liga match against Xérez. But the ex-Getafe attacker has proved that despite these setbacks, he is the most in-form striker for Lotina, and menaces to keep adding goals and improving his average if the injuries allow it.
