On the past Sunday Deportivo Juvenil A conquered its third group title after a 4-0 win against Montañeros. Now the squad is targeting two new goals: the national Spanish championship and the Copa Del Rey.

The solid season of Deportivo Juvenil A was crown on Sunday with a third historic title at group one of División de Honor Juvenil. This league is played by teams composed with players often at the ages of 18 & 19. Also, the league is divided in seven groups according to a geographical criteria and Depor is located at the Galician/ Cantabrian/Asturian sector (group 1).

On the current season Depor Juvenil A has added 66 points in 27 matches, achieving 20 victories, 6 draws and only one defeat (0-1at Oviedo), while the team has scored 51 goals and has only allowed 14. Last victory over Montañeros (4-0 at Abegondo) put a difference of ten points over second place Racing Santander, and with only three matches remaining in the calendar the team coached by José Luis Devesa became into the first club that secured the first place among the seven groups of the league.

The fact of ending first in the group means an important thing, because the seven winners of the groups at División de Honor Juvenil play a final round (called Champions League), which defines the national champion of Spain. This is the third time in which Depor wins the group title, the previous occasions were on the seasons 2007/08 and 1995/96, in this last opportunity Deportivo conquered the Champions League.

The Champions League of this season will take place between May 02 & 09 and will be played in Benidorm (Alicante, Valencia). Depor was the first one to secure the ticket, while Athletic Bilbao did it on Thursday (group 02); the other five clubs leading their groups are: Barcelona, Almeria, Real Madrid, Las Palmas and Valencia FC. Another competition that will be played in the coming weeks is the Copa Del Rey for Juveniles, which is the equivalent of the Copa Del Rey played by the first teams of the clubs; this competition is only reserved for the first four teams of the seven groups (28 teams).

And to mention that the 4-0 win over Montañeros was clinched with a squad full of casualties, because five players were joining Fabril during the past weekend: keeper Edu; defenders Anxo and Jose Manuel; plus midfielders Juan Carlos and Richi. The team also missed defenders Uxio, Cristian, winger Diego Vela and striker Alex Perez, quartet that was injured.

The lineup used for the match was: Enrique – Cardelle (Fernando 46’), Martín, Insua, Brais (David Rodriguez 46’) – Carlos Vigo, Juan Castro, David García, Iago – Adrián Martínez (Cristian 78’), Quique (Lemos 78’). In the end the goals were scored by David Rodríguez, Lemos and Quique (2).

Juvenil A is an important team at the club, because it’s the base of the future Fabril, actually on this season it has been normal to see players like Vela, Juan Carlos and Richi alternating with Depor B.
Other important players are central defender Anxo, who is the youngster with more minutes on the season (2,228), also Uxio, who was already picked to Spain’s U-19 squad.

Striker Alex Perez is the Pichichi at the team with 12 goals scored, also to notice the presence of attacker Iago Beceiro, who is the youngest player at the team and that has been called to Spain U-17 squad, he has performed on this season as left winger and has scored four goals. He even was picked to Fabril in one opportunity. Left-back/winger Juan Castro is the best assistor  with six on the season .Finally, striker Alvaro Lemos has been picked from Juvenil B and already played 12 games scoring 5 goals.

And a lot of this success is a product of the hard work of coach José Luis Devesa, who has been at Juvenil A within the last twelve years and that has always left the squad at the top four places. After the game with Montañeros he talked to website futbolcoruña.com and analysed the match, “We’re achieving the goal established since the first day, which was to end as the champions in liga. The game was relatively easy, because the opportunities for Montañeros came from our own losses at midfield, but those chances never were real scoring opportunities.”

Later he talked of the title conquered by his team and of the near future, “I am glad for reaching the goal, though we can not stop to think, because we still have to play the Champions League and the Copa, reason why we need to still focus and working day by day, a lot still ahead and the rivals in front of us are important, so we need to play at 100% of our level.”
