THREE CHANGES IN THE LINEUP

09 Apr 2010
Lotina worked with his players at the Riazor and tested a lineup with four changes compared to the squad that lost against Atletico Madrid. The main novelty was the presence of Fabril’s Raúl Garcia at the left-back position.

The negative streak of four straight defeats is having its first two “victims”: Manuel Pablo and Juan Rodriguez. On this season both players have been regular starters for Lotina and on Thursday the coach took them off of the starting lineup that he’s preparing for the meeting with Racing Santander (Sunday, 17h00 CET). It was during a training session that took place at the Riazor and that was witnessed by the reporters.

As Depor’s coach said the day before, he switched Laure to the right-back position, while youngster Raúl Garcia performed at the left sector on defence. Later the Fabril’s player talked to reporters and showed his surprise for this opportunity, “It’s a dream, an unthinkable thing. I never thought to be able to be there, at the Riazor, playing. My friends told me that someday I was going to play there, but I never thought it would be possible.”

“I am not nervous; actually, I am pretty quiet. If I have the chance to play then I will be nervous, just like the day of my debut, because  I was nervous when they picked me up, however I wasn’t nervous when I jumped to the grass.” He added.

Meanwhile, Pablo Alvarez is entering for Juan Rodriguez at the right wing, this after surpassing an ankle sprain. The other planned modification is to sit Juan Carlos Valerón, who will be replaced by Riki. The idea is to play with a 4-4-2 lineup, or a 4-2-3-1, with the Madrilenian attacker performing as a playmaker.

The lineup should have Aranzubia at the goal, Laure at the right-back position, Raúl on the left sector, Colotto and Lopo as the centre backs; Antonio Tomas and Sergio as the two pivotes; Pablo Alvarez on the right wing, Guardado on the left and the duo Riki-Adrian in attack.

In the same training session Tunisian Lassad joined the rest of the players and seems available to play on Sunday, same thing than Mista and Juan Dominguez, this last player didn’t end the session due to a ankle problem, but should be fit to face Racing. The midfielder could be one of the surprises in the formation, maybe performing as a playmaker or even as a pivote
