Raúl Garcia became into the 14th Fabril’s member to have debuted in an official game with the first squad during the era of Lotina. And it’s that the Basque manager has enough resources to present a starting eleven composed by “B players“.

Since the arrival of Miguel Angel Lotina to Deportivo, fourteen youngsters have had the chance to play an official game with the first squad: keepers Manu and Fabricio, defenders Piscu, Laure, Chapi, Juanan, Rochela, Raúl and Seoane; midfielders Dani Rodriguez, Iván Perez and Juan Dominguez plus attackers David Añon and Lassad.

A number that was unthinkable in the previous stage with Javier Irureta, but beyond the number the important fact is that eleven of those fourteen youngsters still linked with the club and could even compose a lineup for any game of the first team. It’s true that currently only three of them are usual starters for the coach (Laure, Lassad and Juan Dominguez), but the potential is there and promises to bring joy to the fans.

In the first season of Lotina at Depor (2007/08) the Basque manager allowed the debut of four youngsters. First it was Piscu, who was pulled to the first team in order to replace Lopo for a few weeks, he left a positive impression and earned a professional contract at the end of that season. Later it was Fabricio, who had to replace Aouate and Munúa during a critic moment, while Laure and Chapi earned a game due to their work with Fabril.

Chapi left the club in the summer, but Lotina was so happy with Laure that the right-back defender was promoted to the first team and in the following season he managed to complete thirteen appearances in la liga, plus three in Copa Del Rey and two in European competitions. In that same campaign the coach allowed the debut of other two youngsters: Juanan and Lassad.

Central defender Juanan just played briefly with the first team (three games in Europe), later he left the club during the summer. Same thing than Fabricio, who was a strong bet for Lotina, but that had to leave after playing twice in Intertoto due to a contractual conflict with the club. But the big news was Tunisian Lassad Nouioui, who came from nowhere to play fourteen games in liga scoring three goals in the competition.

And the explosion with the promotions of youngsters came on this season, because Depor’s coach has allowed the debut of eight Fabril’s players. The main one is Juan Dominguez, a midfielder that has inspired good reviews and that’s at the verge of signing a professional contract for next season. Meanwhile Iván Pérez was promoted during the pre-season and signed a professional contract after convincing the coach, though he hasn’t had too many opportunities.

The other six youngsters have been pulled to the first team in order to fill the gaps caused by the injury cases and suspensions. Central defender David Rochela, right-back Diego Seoane and midfielder Dani Rodriguez debuted in the Copa clash with Sevilla (second-leg), while winger/attacker David Añon made his debut in the first-leg against the Andalusians.

The Galician player also had the chance to debut in liga during the visit to Villarreal, same thing than Seoane, who replaced suspended Laure in the starting eleven for the home clash with Real Valladolid. Meanwhile Manu was the starting keeper in Copa and had the chance to debut in la liga as Aranzubia was suspended for the home game with Getafe.

And Raúl Garcia was the last name to join the list as the left-back defender debuted on the past weekend during the 0-3 defeat at Atletico Madrid. His “Cinderella story” doesn’t end there, because Lotina is planning to use him as starter for the upcoming clash with Racing Santander, he is one of the solutions to end the current negative streak of four straight defeats in the competition.

More names could be added to this list for the upcoming matches in liga or on the new season, among them playmaker/winger Luis Angel, midfielder Héctor, winger Chirri, who already was picked a few times during the past season and even striker Hugo Garcia.
