Once again Lotina will have several casualties ahead of a liga match; the Basque already knows that Guardado, Filipe, Juca and Angulo are out, and could lose Lopo and Juan Dominguez. Meanwhile, Valencia is more worried about the coach’s future.

Deportivo is about to the tie the negative mark of nine straight Primera matches missing a victory, and it’s that in order to avoid this dark record the Galicians need to defeat Valencia FC at Mestalla, and for that clash coach Miguel Angel Lotina will still missing several key players, starting with Andrés Guardado, the Mexican will no longer play on this season and the doctors still debating if he should go back to his home country in order to recover from his muscular problem.

Brazilian Filipe Luis is also out although he started to train on this week, same case than his compatriot Juca, who will return to La Coruña on Friday after surpassing his muscular injury at his home country. The fourth casualty for the game is Brayan Angulo, the Colombian left-back defender is at the last step of his recovery process and could be back in two weeks. And the fifth is central defender Diego Colotto, who is suspended with five yellows.

And there could be more casualties for the game against the Valencians, because central defender Albert Lopo (thigh & Peroneal) and midfielder Juan Dominguez (ankle sprain) haven’t been able to train during the week and both will probably miss the clash at Mestalla. At least the trio of strikers Lassad Nouioui (triceps), Mista (knee sprain) and Rodolfo Bodipo (muscular) seem fit to play after missing the previous meeting against UD Almeria.

The big question is what Lotina will do in order to cover the casualty of Guardado, against Almeria the coach used Iván Pérez on the same position at the left, but the ex-Fabril didn’t impress at all. The options pass through replacing the Mexican with Lassad, Adrián or even switching the system into a 4-3-2-1, which means to perform with two playmakers.

Meanwhile, there are major concerns at the centre of the defence, Lopo will probably miss the clash, while Colotto is suspended, which will pull Lotina to perform with Zé Castro and Piscu, a combination never used on this liga season, though it’s the same one that was playing in Copa Del Rey. The last time that both men played together at the centre of the defence was in January (1-0 at Sevilla, Copa second-leg).

On Thursday the team will train at Abegondo and later Lotina will release the list of picked players, the reason for this is that there won’t be a training session in La Coruña on Friday. There are no direct flights between the city and Valencia and therefore the group will have to travel first to Madrid (11h00 CET) and later to Valencia (14h00 CET). However, the club has scheduled a training session at Paterna, the sporting city of Valencia, for Friday’s evening (18h30 CET).

Despite any confrontation between Depor and Valencia has always called the attention of the fans at both clubs, the true is that on this occasion nobody is talking of the game. Deportivo is no longer aspiring to Europe and Valencia seems to have a secure place in Champions League, therefore the attention is more focused in what both clubs can do on the coming season.

Actually, all the attention in Valencia is more focused in the renewal of coach Unai Emery, who ends his contract in June and hasn’t signed an extension. There’s a huge debate about if he should continue or not. Also, the media is focused in the possible arrival of midfielder Mehmet Topal, apparently Valencia is offering five million Euros for him, while Galatasaray ask for eight million.

About news for the game, Emery is recovering left-back Miguel Brito, the Portuguese was out since end of March due to a muscular problem, but midfielder Manuel Fernándes will remain out as the competition committee rejected his appeal after been banned for two games. The Portuguese was sent off after a foul over Aritz Aduritz during the game with Athletic Bilbao and was suspended for the games against Real Madrid and Deportivo.
