DEPORTIVO IN MAY

27 Apr 2010
The terrible performance within March and April has erased all the European aspirations of Depor, now the Galicians can only aspire to end the league in the best possible way. But the rivals in the month are playing for something and Depor might be their judge.

At the end of February Depor was having solid aspirations to qualify to the European competitions, even some people were dreaming of reaching the Champions League positions, but the horrible performance within the last two months has ended all the dreams. And it’s that Depor only added 6 of the 30 points disputed in the period (only the 20%), which converted the team into the worst in the second round.

Now the only aspiration is to end the season in the best possible away, mainly with the aim of breaking that negative mark of nine straight matches without a victory. But it must be remained that the rivals are also playing for something, starting with Real Zaragoza, rival that will visit the Riazor on Saturday.

The Aragonians seemed in the course of salvation, but have missed to win a game within the last four matchdays, reason why they are currently just two points above the relegation. They urgently need a win. To make things worse they will arrive to La Coruña with several casualties at the squad, including it’s best attacker Humberto Suazo, while ex-Depor players Lafita and Arizmendi are doubtful.

At midweek Lotina’s team will be visiting Osasuna at El Sadar; the Navarrans aren’t saved yet and need three more points, but since they visit Real Madrid on the weekend, the most probably thing is that they will arrive to Depor’s match still missing those three golden points; which means they could secure the permanence against Depor’s team.

The final two matchdays means confrontations against clubs fighting for Europe; starting with the visit of RCD Mallorca to the Riazor, the Majorcans are without any doubt the surprise of the season as they are currently living at the Champions League zone. However they present a poor record away from home as they were only able to win two games in this condition: 1-0 at Osasuna (matchday 14) and 2-1 at Real Valladolid (matchday 24).

Athletic Bilbao will be the last rival on the liga season as Depor will pay a visit to San Mamés; the Basques still have chances to qualify to the Europa League and are even dreaming with the Champions League. The team coached by Caparrós is one of the best locals teams in the competition as they have won ten of the sixteen matches played in this condition. They have only lost three times at home: 0-4 Vs Sevilla (matchday 05), 1-2 Vs Sporting Gijón (matchday 07) and 1-2 Vs Valencia (matchday 13).
