RIKI UNTIL 2013

28 Apr 2010
Deportivo signed the renewal of Riki, who has been the best striker at Depor during the present season. The new contract is lasting until 2013 and means important news for Lotina ahead of next season.

On Monday, Deportivo and striker Iván Sanchez Rico ‘Riki’ signed a renewal lasting until the year 2013. The current contract of the Madrilenian was ending in 2011, but president Lendoiro is currently trying to extend the contract of the key players that are ending their deals within the next twelve months.

Riki arrived to Depor for the season 2006/2007, on that campaign he had more liga appearances as starter (29), but curiously he only scored three goals. In the next two seasons, with Lotina as the head coach, the Madrilenian passed to be the “revulsive” of the team as he was the man with more appearances coming from the bench (24 on the season 2007/08 and 21 on the 2008/09 campaign).

And he scored eleven goals within those seasons; for the present campaign things have been more balanced for Riki, because he has been a starter in 15 of the 23 matches played by the Madrilenian scoring six goals, just two under his best mark at Getafe and mark that puts him at the top of the Pichichi list at Depor.

On Tuesday, Riki talked to reporters about his renewal, “It’s what I wanted since we started to talk, but logically I hope to keep enjoying with Depor at Primera División. The club has given me a lot and I like the city. I have the support from both, the president and the coach, and well… those are aspects that moved me to take this decision. There’s the chance I could retire on here. Let’s hope I will enjoy of more years in football, and that I could stay for more time.”

In this way Riki becomes into the second player renewed on this season after Juan Dominguez, who signed his professional contract one week ago. To mention that the ex-Getafe man will be 30 in August, which means that he could now retire at Depor at the age of 33. The renewal might not end on here, because the club still has to negotiate the cases of other key players: Daniel Aranzubia, Albert Lopo, Juan Rodríguez, Antonio Tomás, Piscu and Juan Carlos Valerón.
