Goalkeeper Daniel Aranzubia signed on Tuesday an extension of contract that’s lasting until 2013, though the deal involves a clause that could extend the contract for one additional year. It’s the fourth player that signs a renewal on this season.

The operation of renewals continued on Tuesday as goalkeeper Daniel Aranzubia signed an extension of contract with Deportivo La Coruña. The current deal of the Basque goalie was lasting until June of 2011, but the new agreement is increasing his career at the club until, at least, June of 2013.

Canaldeportivo.com informed that the new contract has a clause that will automatically extend the deal of the keeper if he is able to play in 50% of the official matches of the season 2012/2013, which means that the career of Aranzubia at Depor could be extended until June of 2014. It’s the fourth renewal signed on this season after the ones of midfielder Juan Dominguez, striker Riki and playmaker Valerón.

Aranzubia arrived to Depor for the past season and immediately won a spot at the team, so much that was elected as RCDLC.com player of the season and best newcomer 2008/2009, actually the ex-Athletic Bilbao is currently leading the overall ranking for the present campaign, which means that he could end winning a second straight title, something only done by Pedro Munitis on the past (seasons 2004/05 and 2005/06)

Coach Miguel Ángel Lotina was quite happy when he was informed about the news, as he said during his press conference, “We were lucky with him, because right now, undoubtedly, Aranzubia wouldn’t be at the reach of Deportivo due to his market price. He is part of the list of important players that we are trying to renew.”
