RUBEN SEARCHES FOR A NEW DESTINY

30 Jun 2010
The endless career of Ruben Castro at Deportivo is about to reach the end, after six loans the striker is living his last year of contract. Lotina already told him that there’s no room for him at Depor and it seems he will end up at Rayo Vallecano.

Only a few football players can relate the same stories lived by Ruben Castro within the last six years; the Canarian arrived to Deportivo in 2004 and has been discarded by three coaches, Irureta, Caparrós and Lotina

For this reason the ex Las Palmas attacker has been forced to spend the major part of his seven-year contract outside of Deportivo. And it’s that he already lived six loan periods: Rayo Vallecano (2009-2010), SD Huesca (2008-2009), Gimnástic Tarragona (Jan 2007- June 2007), Racing Santander (June 2006- Dec 2006) and Albacete (2004-2005).

The last one was quite successful, because Ruben was the top-scorer at Rayo Vallecano (14 goals at Segunda), this no matter the player was criticized for not showing a regular performance throughout the season. Despite this comments, the Madrilenian club is interested in counting with the striker for the season 2010/11.

Since this is the last year in the contract of the player the media speculates that president Lendoiro could be offering to Rayo Vallecano a similar deal to the one that allowed the exit of Cristian Hidalgo to Hercules. That deal consisted in allowing the exit of the player and to sign an option in which Hercules was compromised to pay €200,000in case of achieving the promotion to Primera, something that in the end has occurred.

But Rayo Vallecano isn’t the only one interested in the player, according to Sportpaper Deporte Campeón Elche already contacted Depor in order to know the case of the Canarian striker, the same source wrote that Depor’s boss has offered a free-loan with an option to pay €600,000 in case the club achieves the promotion to Primera. No matter what happens, it’s clear that Ruben Castro will have to play for the seventh time in seven years outside of Deportivo, a real “nomad” in the history of the club.
