PREPARING THE END OF THE SEASON

05 Apr 2006
Yesterday Caparr??s began preparations for the first step in reaching a European spot next season. The visit to Villarreal will be followed by crucial games against Sevilla, C??diz and Celta. The big doubts in the squad continue to be Gallardo and Juanma, who haven’t recovered from their muscular problems, and Duscher, who abandoned Racing's game because of knee trouble.

In yesterday's training session the main absences were V?ctor (muscular injury), Duscher (knee), Gallardo (working separately with the doctor) and Juanma (working at the gym). V?ctor’s injury isn't serious and his absence was more of a precaution. The cases of Gallardo and Juanma are more complicated and it seems that they won’t be ready for Sunday, while Duscher will have to wait until the last minute to determine if he has recovered. The other three absences are long-term casualties: Andrade, Taborda and Valer??n.

With only one point separating Deportivo and Villarreal, the game is important since it could determine the future of both clubs, The Valencian team came to the match after making history in the Champions League by eliminating Inter Milan and reaching the semifinals. But in La Liga the situation is different since Pellegrini's team has only managed one win in the last five Liga matches. They must achieve a victory if they want to secure a place in Europe next season.

The Galicians come into this game with the chance of entering the record books with nine away wins. It will be also Joan Capdevila's 200th game in the Primera and marks the probable return of Iago to Villarreal.  The Fabril youngster was close to signing for the Valencian club three years ago, but in the end he wasn't accepted there.

But the eyes of Deportivo and Villarreal will also be on other stadiums. The crucial game between Celta and Valencia at Bala?dos and the visit of Zaragoza to Sevilla could also affect their European aspirations. Deportivo will play the following weekend against the Sevillan team and fifteen days later it’s the Galician derby – a crucial end of season that will determine Depor's future.
