FIRST PROBLEM FOR LOTINA: PISCU

10 Jul 2010
The pre-season stage has just started and Lotina already has a big problem, and it’s that central defender Piscu didn’t attend to the presentation and neither to the first trainings, apparently he doesn’t want to continue at Depor.

The new season begins carrying problems for coach Miguel Angel Lotina, because central defender Adrián López ‘Piscu’ is unhappy with his renewal. The ex-Fabril was the only player that didn’t attend to the presentation made on Thursday, and neither was present during the first trainings on Friday.

Deportivo’s officials maintained silence about the issue, and it was the agent of the player, Eugenio Botas, who released a press communication on Friday’s night to explain the situation. The e-mail sent by the agent assures that the defender has several offers from other Primera clubs and that he’s still thinking of which one he will choose. The communication also accepts that any Spanish club signing the player will have to pay one and a half million Euros to Deportivo as part of a clause in the contract.

The ‘rebellion’ of Piscu was clear since Thursday, because he skipped the presentation at the Riazor, and everything was confirmed on Friday as he missed the first two training session, all of that without permission from the coaching staff; to mention that at the beginning of the week he was normally working at Abegondo alongside Iván Pérez and Lassad.

The media believes that this behavior is a way to protest for the automatic renewal fulfilled by Deportivo during the past week. Eugenio Botas and Lendoiro were negotiating an extension of contract for two years, but never reached an agreement and since the contract of the central defender was expiring on June 30, the club decided to execute a clause in the previous contract to assure his continuity for one more season.

Piscu is unhappy with the increase in the wages stipulated in this renewal, and that’s why he’s acting like this. And according to the press communication released by his agent he should have better offers. It must be also remembered that a similar situation occurred in the past with keeper Fabricio, who refused to accept the one-year renewal stipulated in his contract and preferred to sign for Real Valladolid. That case still to be resolved by a judge.

Coach Lotina is surprised with the attitude of the player, as he said during the first press conference on the pre-season, "The president was surprised as much as we were. We don’t want to forward events. I won’t talk of any possible hypothesis. I do not know what happens with Piscu. It is an issue of the club and when we know any news, we will inform you, but he didn’t come to train, he was called up for yesterday’s meeting and little more I can say. "
