Rubén arrives to Deportivo as part of the transfer of Filipe Luis to Atletico Madrid; the 21-year-old youngster will play at Depor during the next two seasons, president Lendoiro tried to include a buyout option in the deal, but for the moment it wasn’t possible, though it was also informed that his contract with Atletico ends in 2012. The player is considered as one of the gems at Atletico’s youth system and was already taking part of the pre-season stage at the first team of coach Quique Sánchez Flores.

The player was interviewed by newspaper La Voz de Galicia and he explained the meaning of this opportunity, “I accept the challenge with great enthusiasm. As they told me there was the chance of coming to A Coruña I did not think twice. I loved the idea and accepted the challenge.”

He was also thanking the confidence that coach Lotina has put on him, "Yes, I know that he has good reports on me and that's always a good thing for anyone. When you enter into a new team and the coach likes you, then it’s gratifying. It’s a point in my favor, but now we have to work harder in order to thank the confidence that he has put on me.”

Lotina admitted that the arrival of the midfielder is in order to cover the departure of Sergio, which means that the Andalusian will compete for a spot with Antonio Tomás and Juan Dominguez, but due to his defensive characteristics it could also mean competence for Juan Rodriguez and Brazilian Juca.
