Just five goals on the pre-season; it’s the poor mark conquered by Deportivo after six preparation matches ahead of la liga. It should be something to be worried, but Lotina says to be content with the performance of the team.

Any pre-season is understand as a preparation stage in which the less important thing are the results, but at Deportivo the current results before the debut in liga are giving enough reasons to be worried. And it’s that the Galician team has just conquered five goals in six pre-season games, and three of those goals came in the match against Union Berlin FC, while in the last two encounters Depor ended scoreless (Newcastle & West Ham) .

It shouldn’t be a fact to be despised, because Deportivo has faced countless problems in recent seasons related to the numbers of goals scored. Just to remember that on the past liga campaign Lotina’s team only scored twelve goals during the second round, which was the worst mark at Primera División and the main reason for the downfall experienced by the team in the second part of the season.

However, coach Miguel Ángel Lotina seems not to be too worried with this situation, as he commented after the game at West Ham, “At this point I see the team surprisingly well. West Ham is a team that has won in the visits to Hamburg and Panathinaikos, and in a general sense we were superior. We were fine in the first half and a little more relaxed in the second."

Maybe the reasons for this comments is that the Basque coach seems the potential of the team at midfield and also because he is hoping for the arrival of a new striker, as he said, “We have many choices, and if we sign a new left-back defender and a striker with the ability to score goals, then we will have a team to enjoy.”

Another thing that’s worrying the coaching staff is the large list of casualties due to injury reasons; for the last trip to London Depor missed eight players due to different physical problems:: Aranzubia (shoulder), Juca (thigh), Raúl Garcia (knee sprain), Antonio Tomás (pubalgy), Albert Lopo (tibia contusion), Desmarets (adductor), Michel and Urreta (both muscular injury).

And in the match against West Ham the last player to join the list was Juan Dominguez, the midfielder suffered a tough tackle during the match and it has been determined that he sustained an ankle sprain. New scans will be made during the week, but the doctors are worried, because it is the same ankle that gave a lot of problems to the player at the end of the past season.

The major part of these injuries aren’t serious cases, but the true is that these problems aren’t allowing the coach to make his tactical tests before the debut in liga. Maybe the only player that’s in risk of missing the first liga encounter against Zaragoza is keeper Daniel Aranzubia, though Lotina hopes he will be fit for the opening day at Primera División.
