Central defender Ze Castro was close to being transferred during the last days of the transfer window after Besiktas presented a good offer for all the parties involved. Now the player wants to fight for a spot at Depor’s defence.

It was the last operation that president Lendoiro tried to complete during the summer window, but in the end it didn’t happen due to external complications. Ze Castro was convinced that the best for him and Deportivo was to go out as the competence at the centre of the defence was highly complicated with the presences at Deportivo’s squad of Lopo, Colotto and now Aythami.

A lot was said about a possible transfer of Ze Castro to Portugal, and a few weeks ago the name of Panathinaikos came out as Lendoiro confirmed their interest in the player, but in the end it was a Turkish club, Besiktas, the one that pushed stronger for his signings. According to reports they were offering a loan spell valued in €400,000 plus to include a buy option for €5 or €7 million.

The operation was convincing both Lendoiro and Ze Castro, but all fell down as Besiktas couldn’t open a slot at their squad. The Turkish side already had occupied its eight spots for foreigners and was pending on a signing of German Schalke 04, which didn’t happen in the end, forcing Besiktas to cancel the deal, or at least to delay it until December.

Now, Ze Castro will have to fight for a spot at Deportivo; he commented about the failed operation that, “I look forward to a similar offer or even a better one in my career. Now it was close, but it couldn´t be. There was an agreement between the two clubs and I also gave my approval, but there was a misfortune. In football you live these situations. Everyone expected me to leave, even my own colleagues at the team, but I'm here, I have a contract with Deportivo and I will give everything for this club."

"We just looked at the deals that were good for me and for the club; in fact, there was some that I liked and we didn’t see it, because it wasn’t convincing the president. Lendoiro does the best for the club, as it should be. I am very tired physically and psychologically, but it’s normal to be like that. I have to deal with it and maybe someday something good for both sides will come out. Still, I'm not a child anymore and in football you have to be prepared for everything." The ex-Atletico added.

With the option of going out already discarded, Ze Castro is now focused in fighting for a starting spot at Depor’s defense, something that seems difficult taking in mind the presence of Lopo at Ze Castro at Depor, however he is optimistic, “They played in the first game, but don’t think than anyone on here has more options than the rest. Lotina will be the one deciding who should play.”

Finally, the Portuguese central defender didn’t train on Wednesday and Thursday due to thigh problem, and the scans revealed that he suffered an elongation on the adductor of his left thigh, but doctor Carlos Larińo told to reporters that it isn’t a serious case, “The ultrasound was normal. It is a minor injury and in one week he should be training with the group” The doctor said, therefore Ze Castro has options to enter into the list of players that will travel to Sevilla, this after been sidelined for the game with Zaragoza due to the possibility of been transferred to Besiktas.
