THE POOR NUMBERS OF DEPORTIVO

30 Sep 2010
Depor is the worst team in terms of points added during the year 2010; it is also the worst scorer within the same period. In resume, Lotina’s men have only won four of the last twenty-one matches in liga.

It’s evident that Deportivo isn’t living a good moment on the football pitch, and maybe only five matchdays have been played on the current championship, but the poor performance of Lotina’s team is coming from the second round of the past liga campaign. For this reason, Los Blanquiazules are the worst team at Primera División during the year 2010, this in terms of points added and goals scored.

And it’s that in the twenty-one matches disputed on the present year the Galicians have only achieved four victories plus seven draws, while at the same time the team has only scored sixteen goals. Poor numbers that demonstrates that Depor’s agony isn’t new.

The disaster started in March after the 3-1 win of Deportivo against Tenerife, at the time the Galicians were fighting for a European seat and even had clear chances of clinching a spot in the Champions League, but the bad results left the team at mid-table at the end of the past liga campaign and now in relegation.

Currently Depor is penultimate, a position that the team doesn’t occupies since January 27th, 2008. It was during the first season of Lotina at Deportivo, the team spent seven weeks at the 19th place and it went out of this difficult situation after an impressive recovery during the second round.

Now, if Real Zaragoza defeats Sporting Gijón on Saturday and if Depor loses on Sunday at Real Madrid, then Lotina’s team will end the matchday at the last position on the standings; it would be the first time since the 1960’s in which the team is at the bottom of la liga.
