NO CLUES ABOUT THE LINEUP

16 Oct 2010
On Friday Lotina didn’t give any hint on the lineup that he will present against Osasuna; the only thing for sure is that Aranzubia will be the starting keeper, while the main surprise could be Seoane playing at the left-back position.

Friday’s training session was highly expected since it took place behind closed doors at the Riazor; it was expected to see coach Miguel Angel Lotina testing the lineup that will be used against Osasuna on Sunday, but in the end the Basque manager didn’t give any hint of the formation as the players only completed an intense session in which they trained some specific actions.

Until now the only player that has a secure place at the starting eleven is Daniel Aranzubia, this since Lotina himself confirmed since the beginning of the week that the Basque goalkeeper is already fit to play. The rest of the positions are in doubt, at least until Saturday as the team will complete its last training session before the game (Abegondo, 10h30 CET).

The main thing that has called the attention is the presence of Fabril’s right-back defender Diego Seoane in the training sessions of the week; it was usual to see him working with the first team during the pre-season and also during the past campaign, but this has been the first week on this season in which he has completed all the training sessions.

Some journalists believes that this is an indication that he will be a starter on Sunday, the reason is that both left-backs at Depor have just arrived from international actions; Claudio Morel has been the normal starter on the season, but he joined the team until Friday after a long an exhausting trip with Paraguay in Oceania –he played the full 180 minutes in the games with Australia and New Zealand-. Meanwhile, Knut Rindarøy made a more relaxing trip since Norway played twice in Europe and he only completed five minutes on the pitch, but it seems that Lotina is not yet trusting the Norwegian.

It shouldn’t be a surprise to see Seoane playing on the left, he is used to play on the right side and indeed that is his normal position at Deportivo B, but it should be reminded that he has also played several matches on the left sector, actually he debuted at Primera División playing at the left-back position (0-2 Vs Valladolid, May 20).

The rest of the lineup remains a mystery, but it is already known that a few changes will be seen due to the injuries, even some positions seem clear due to this reason. Starting with the wings as Andres Guardado and Jonathan Urreta will miss Sunday’s clash. The Mexican is out with a hamstring problem, while the Uruguayan had visa problems and won’t return from his home country until the weekend.

The casualties of Riki, Valerón (both thigh) and Michel (knee) also leaves a clear view in attack,  because Lotina will probably rely on Lassad and Adrian for the playmaker’s role and the position of central attacker, especially since the Asturian forward is arriving after scoring twice with the U-21 team.

At defence, it called the attention that Lotina worked for some minutes with a defensive line composed with Manuel Pablo on the right side, Morel on the left and the duo Colotto-Ze Castro at the centre. It would mean to leave Catalan Albert Lopo outside of the starting eleven, also Seoane, who was appointed before as a possible starter.

Finally, to appoint that before the training session, the players had a private meeting inside the changing room; the training was scheduled for 10:30 AM, but in the end it started one hour later due to this meeting. The coaches weren’t part of the reunion, just the players and Joaquin Dosil, who is the psychologist of Lotina. Asked about the content of the conversation, midfielder Ruben Pérez said at the press room of the Riazor that , "We decided to talk and that’s it. We didn't say that the team is in a fatal situation, just that we feel screwed. We want to leave the bottom positions, and we are conscious that we are able to do it."
