Deportivo and Levante have a crucial meeting on Sunday in the quest for salvation, and both teams are preparing the match with several casualties at their squads. At Depor Guardado and Urreta are already discarded for the game.

For the clash against Levante UD (Sunday, 17h00 CET), coach Miguel Angel Lotina will still suffering several casualties at his squad. And it’s that he is currently missing eight players during the trainings, the half of them are already discarded for Sunday’s game, including wingers Andrés Guardado and Jonathan Urreta.

Guardado was already training on Saturday and it was even speculated that he was going to be picked for the past match against RCD Espanyol, but on Monday he suffered a new problem in the same region where he sustained a hamstring strain injury when he was concentrated with Mexico’s national team. The left winger didn’t end that session and on Wednesday he was working apart; now the doctors believe that the best is to not hurry things up and not take any risk, therefore the ex-Atlas won’t take part of Sunday’s match.

Similar is the case of Urreta; the Uruguayan should have been fit by now after suffering, six weeks ago, a knee sprain during the match with Getafe (September 20), but the winger still not training as his knee is not recovered yet. He was working apart on Wednesday and is also a casualty for the visit to Levante.

Together with this duo, there are other two players that are already discarded for the match at the Ciutat de Valencia: midfielder Antonio Tomás (thigh) and playmaker Michel (knee). The Cantabrian is in the final week of his recovery process and might return against RCD Mallorca, while the Valencian is progressing but won’t return until March of next year after going through surgery in order to correct a meniscus problem.

Meanwhile, the other four players are doubtful for Sunday: right-back Laureano Sanabria ‘Laure’ (ankle sprain), central defender Ze Castro (thigh), left-back Knut Rindarøy (hamstring) and right winger Pablo Alvarez (adductor). The four of them trained apart on Wednesday and it isn’t known yet if they will be ready for Sunday.

Laure missed the Copa clash with Getafe and the liga win over Espanyol, while Ze Castro was a last-minute casualty for the past game at the Riazor and hasn’t recovered yet. Rindarøy and Pablo Alvarez played in the game against the Catalans, but the Norwegian was replaced at half-time, while ‘the Shark’ sustained his injury despite it only played twenty-three minutes. At least Lotina is recovering Juca and Desmarets (both thigh), duo that already joined the trainings after missing last Sunday’s game. Paraguayan Claudio Morel is also back in trainings after been solving a visa problem.

On Wednesday, and in order to avoid more physical problems, the coaching staff divided the team in two groups, the first was composed by the players that were starters in the last two games (Osasuna & Espanyol): Adrián, Lopo, Colotto, Rubén Pérez and Juan Rodríguez. These five men only completed the first part of the training session and later had a massage session, while the rest of the squad had a more intense training.

After the training session, Lotina talked at the press room of Abegondo and explained the situation with the injuries, ”Let’s see how things are tomorrow. At the beginning Juca should be ready for Sunday … if he doesn’t suffer a relapse… Rinda maybe… Guardado won’t be ready, he suffered a relapse on Monday and despite the doctors don’t see it as a serious thing, the true is that it is affecting his recovery process.”

Asked if Depor will be searching for a draw in the visit to Levante, the Basque coach responded that, “You must think in winning the game, maybe and according to the circumstances in the game you can end happy with the draw, but at midweek you can’t be thinking of achieving a draw.”

Similar is the scenario at Levante UD related to the injuries, because coach Luis Garcia is dealing with several casualties in order to prepare the match. More specifically seven of his players are dragging different physical problems: defender Victoriano Rivas ‘Nano (back), goalkeeper Gustavo Munúa (adductor), left-back Asier Del Horno (Achilles), midfielder Xavi Torres (adductor), defender Xisco Muñoz (hamstring), and  midfielders Vicente Iborra and Miguel Pérez (both muscular).

Of this list only ex-Betis Nano seems to be ready to play after he was replaced in the second half against Mallorca (1-2). Levante rested on Wednesday, and on Tuesday’s session the coach had to pick five players from the B squad in order to have enough men to complete the training. These youngsters were: defender Antonio López, midfielder Adrián Lois, keepers Sergio Garabato and Carlos Paredes, plus midfielder Jose Marco Higón
