THINKING OF MALAGA

19 Nov 2010
Lotina recovers four players that have been out recently, but it could lose his trio of strikers as the three of them haven’t trained within the last two days. Meanwhile, Málaga arrives to the Riazor with a refreshed squad.

The injury room at Deportivo seems to be a rollercoaster on these days, because on this week it was known that coach Miguel Angel Lotina could be recovering four players ahead of the clash against Malaga (Riazor, Sunday, 17h00 CET), but at the same time he could end up losing his trio of strikers.

First to all, on Wednesday and Thursday four players that been out injured were already training at the same pace than the rest of their team mates: midfielder Antonio Tomás (thigh), right winger Jonathan Urreta (knee sprain), left-back Knut Rindarøy and central defender Ze Castro (quadriceps).

It is expected that Antonio Tomás, Rindarøy and Ze Castro will be picked for Sunday match at the Riazor, but it’s not the case with Urreta. The Uruguayan seems to be totally recovered and he even took part of the training match on Wednesday, but Lotina doesn’t want to take more risks after witnessing the long list of relapses at his squad, so it is expected that he will return until the next visit to Racing Santander.

On Wednesday the coach explained this case, “I pretend that the injured men will arrive in perfect conditions; we don’t have an obligation as last year to put the recovered men as soon as they were fit, because before we had less people, so let's wait and see how Urreta evolves. There are no hurries. We have Saul, Desmarets and Pablo Álvarez for that position, so we must be calmed. "

Meanwhile, other two players at the injury room will remain out at least until next week: Paraguayan left-back Claudio Morel (ankle sprain) and Mexican left winger Andrés Guardado (hamstring). Brazilian midfielder Juca will be out for at least three more weeks after sustaining a muscular problem in the past Copa clash with Osasuna, while Michel(Meniscus) is out until May of 2011.

But there are more cases, on Wednesday it was known that Adrian (muscular), Riki (adductor), Lassad Nouioui (ankle) and Albert Lopo (hamstring) weren’t totally fit to play. The quartet was facing problems that aren’t serious, but didn’t complete Wednesday’s training and were also out by Thursday, with the exception of Lopo, who seemed to be fine and even took part of Thursday’s training match at the end of the session.

Riki is dragging an adductor problem since the game with RCD Mallorca, he just completed part of the training on Wednesday and was off for Thursday. It is the same case for Lassad, while Adrian sustained his injury on Wednesday’s training after he suffered a knock on his right leg. The absence of his three strikers could push Lotina to pick Fabril’s Dionisio Emanuel Villalba ‘Dioni’ for the game. The 21-year-old striker is currently the Pichichi of his group at Segunda B with seven goals scored in nine matches and already debuted at Primera División. He took part of the training session on Thursday.

Finally, the most curious case is Albert Lopo; he is dragging a problem in a hamstring muscle since three weeks ago, it is a pain that appears during the warming up, but that later disappears as the defender is active on the pitch. The scans didn’t reveal any problem and on Wednesday the doctors decided to rest the player, but he was already working on Thursday and even was part of the defensive line tested on the session (Manuel Pablo – Colotto – Aythami – Lopo – Seoane).

At Malaga, the environment is positive after the team clinched its third win of the season –the first one in six weeks- and, especially, since the team left the relegation zone thanks to a narrow 1-0 win over UD Levante. It seems that the arrival of new coach Manuel Pellegrini has injected some positivism, even there are good news related to the injury cases as defender Iván González (muscular), ex-Depor attacker Albert Luque (quadriceps) and midfielder Juan Jesús Gutiérrez Juanito’ (ankle) are all fit to play against Depor.

Pellegrini is even counting with talented winger Sergio Paulo Barbosa ‘Duda’, the Portuguese was operated from a groin injury sustained during the World Cup and hasn’t debuted yet on this season. He was picked for the first time during last weekend’s match with UD Levante, but didn’t play, so he could see the light at the end of the tunnel at the Riazor.

The only two confirmed casualties for the game against Depor are keeper Rubén Martínez (ankle sprain) and Venezuelan striker Salomón Rondón (rectus femoris). Besides, Danish defensive duo Patrick Jan Mtiliga and Kris Stadsgaard, Arabian winger Quincy Owusu-Abeyie and Uruguayan striker Sebastián Fernández will join the trainings until Friday as they saw action with their national squads during midweek.
