Lotina is recovering Guardado, but is losing Ruben Pérez while Adrian is doubtful. Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid seems to be in the middle of a crisis, though a win over Depor might clear the dark clouds.

On Saturday, Deportivo visits the Vicente Calderón stadium (22h00 CET); it is considered as the most difficult match in December, but the Galicians will try to keep the positive streak saw within the last month and a half, which has meant to add thirteen of the last eighteen points in dispute.

The big novelty for Lotina is the return of Andrés Guardado; the Mexican winger has been off since September after sustaining a hamstring injury when he was with the national team of his county. The ex-Atlas is fit to play since the past week, but was reserved against Hercules CF, now he will be part of the list for the visit to Atletico Madrid.

However, it isn’t expected that Guardado will be a starter, but surely will enjoy of minutes during the second part. At the same time Lotina is losing Ruben Pérez for the game, he can’t face Atletico because it’s his parent club and Lendoiro refused to pay the high clause stipulated in the loan contract (more than one million Euros).

It is an important casualty for Depor’s coach, first because the Andalusian is a key piece at midfield, demonstrated by the fact that he’s the player with more minutes on the liga season (1,147). Secondly, because Lotina is having problems with the fitness of the other pivotes at the squad, on Monday Antonio Tomás just made his first appearance in a month as starter after surpassing a thigh problem, and judging by his game against Hercules the Cantabrian isn’t fit to play for the whole ninety minutes.

Juan Rodriguez was the other normal starter within the last two months, but missed the game against Los Herculinos due to a gastric problem; he resumed the trainings on Tuesday, while Juca will not return until next week. This situation might open a window for Juan Dominguez; the ex-Fabril has just completed fifty-eight minutes in la liga in three matches and hasn’t been a starter yet.

Another doubt for Lotina is who should play in the role of central striker; Adrián was replaced in the game against Hercules after suffering a knock on his left ankle, foul that was committed by defender Pamarot . The player said that he was feeling fine during the match, but by Wednesday he was feeling pain each time he stepped with his left foot on the ground. The doctors determined that he suffered an ankle sprain plus a contusion. By Thursday he was feeling better, but still doubtful for the game and will pass a late test on Friday in order to know if he will travel to Madrid.

With Riki out until next week, the only striker remaining at the squad is Lassad Nouioui, and all appoints that the Tunisian will be the selected choice to face Atletico. He was fine after entering in the second half against Hercules and even scored the winning goal. Lassad has just played four times as starter on this season, and the previous opportunity was on October 25 during the 0-3 loss at Real Sociedad.

Lassad was looking optimistic and content after scoring his second goal on the season (the other was in Copa), as he was appointing to the top places during a press conference at Abegondo, "We are Deportivo and must look always to the top. Right now Europe is six points away from us [only five points] and relegation is seven points behind our team, so I prefer to look up. I still haven’t done anything yet. To score a goal after so many matches doesn’t mean anything for a striker"

Things are more gloomy at Atletico Madrid; the Madrilenian team has suffered two straight defeats in liga (2-3 Vs RCD Espanyol and 0-2 at UD Levante) plus another loss in the Europa League (2-3 Vs Aris Thessaloniki F.C.) For this reason coach Quique Sánchez Flores is in the spotlight and some fans are even already claiming for his head.

But president Enrique Cerezo said in a interview at Depor Sport that the ex-Valencia coach won’t be fired in case of a defeat against Deportivo, though he also claimed that he won’t have the same patient of Lendoiro, “This is not looking good and the team is going down. We aren’t capable of making a good game and aren’t playing like we want. Or they react or we will have to search for solutions. This is not the right moment to think of the coach’s future, but clearly by January we can’t be outside of Europe, out of the Copa and tenth on the standings.” He said.

The good news for the Madrilenians is that there are no fresh injuries at the team; Portuguese Tiago Mendes had an adductor problem at the beginning of the week, but by Wednesday he was already fine. Therefore the only casualty for the match against Depor is midfielder Paulo Assunçao, who is suspended after picking his fifth yellow card of the season during the past game against UD Levane.

On next week the team will play a crucial match in the UEFA Europa League against Bayer 04 Leverkusen; it was supposed that Quique Flores was going to rest some men ahead of that important clash, but according to the trainings it looks like the Madrilenian coach will present his best possible starting eleven against Depor, after all he urgently needs to chain a positive streak in order to avoid further problems.

On Wednesday he tested a 4-4-2 lineup: De Gea - Ujfalusi, Perea, Domínguez, Filipe Luis - Reyes, Raúl García, Tiago, Alberto Perea – Kun Aguero, Forlán. The surprise in that squad is Alberto Perea, a 20-year-old right winger from Atletico B that on the past weekend gave a lot of problems to Depor B, however it is expected that Portuguese Simao will end claiming the spot. During the training session Quique Flores even tested that lineup against a line of five defenders, which was composed b Valera, Juanito, Godín, Pulido and Antonio López. All of this in the attempt to prepare his team against the defensive wall of Lotina.
