Deportivo and Sporting Gijón are the worst scorers in la liga with only twelve goals in favour after fifteen matches, though the numbers of Depor have improved since matchday 09.

Saturday’s match not only represents a confrontation between two clubs that want to avoid the pit, but it’s also a game between two teams that are struggling to score some goals. After fifteen matchdays Deportivo and Sporting Gijón are the two Primera clubs with the worst scoring record: only twelve goals in favour. That’s even a worse mark than the one of last place Real Zaragoza (14).

It’s clearly the main problem of these two teams, which has led to see them struggling to survive during the present season, and both teams present similar weaknesses, firstly these two clubs don’t have an in-form striker, Depor’s trio of top-scorers is composed by Adrian, Guardado and Colotto, of this list only Adrian is a striker, and the other two forwards at the team –Riki and Lassad- have only scored once, which means that Depor’s strikers have only contributed with four goals during this liga season.

But the situation is worse at Sporting, because the Asturians have five strikers at their team –Bilic, Barral, Luis Morán, Nacho Novo and Sangoy- and combined these five men have only scored three goals, actually the best scorer at the team is a midfielder, Diego Castro, who already added four goals to his tally.

Another similarity is their lack of strength in attack, and it’s that Deportivo and Sporting are among the worst teams in terms of attempts to score; the Asturians only had 178 after 15 matchdays, which only means the 16th best record in la liga, while Depor is 17th with only 170 attempts. The only three teams with a worse mark are Real Sociedad (163), Levante (160) and Hercules (150).

Besides, Adrian and Diego Castro are the two players with more attempts to score at these two teams, both have ten, and that mark is far and away from the top-five list in la liga: Cristiano Ronaldo (108), David Villa (71), Lionel Messi (66), Giuseppe Rossi (59) and Markus Rosenberg (54).

At least the good news for Depor is that its marks are growing since matchday 09, and it’s that since the 3-0 win over RCD Espanyol the Galicians have scored nine goals, which is the 7th best mark in the period, besides Lotina’s team added thirteen points within the last seven matches, which is the third best mark in la liga, just above Barcelona (21) and Real Madrid (18). Meanwhile, Sporting only scored four times and added three points in the same time lapse and both are the worst marks in the period.
