FIGHTING FOR THE PERMANENCE

26 Jan 2011
The defeat against Zaragoza has put Depor back into the fight to avoid the relegation zone. The main problem for the Galicians is the lack of goals, just to mention that Lotina’s side has ended scoreless in 12 of the 20 matches played so far.

Problems for Deportivo at Primera División, the defeat at the La Romareda is rising the alarm bells at the Riazor as the Herculino team is now only four points above the relegation zone. The main worry is the impression left by a team that was unable to complete a shot on target against the second worst defense in the league.

Now, the distance between the 20th and the 12th spot in la liga is just of seven points, which means that the fight for the permanence will be dramatic until the end. For the moment Malaga CF, UD Almeria and UD Levante are occupying the last three places, but the situation is changing each weekend.

Depor has presented a downward spiral since matchday 16, the Galicians have only added four of the last fifteen points in dispute, but the main problem is the lack of goals. And it’s that Depor has ended scoreless in the last three matches in liga and presents a negative mark of 308 minutes without scoring, the last goal in liga was conquered against Athletic Bilbao on matchday 17.

Actually, Depor is, alongside Racing Santander, the worst scorer in la liga with 15 goals in favour after 20 matches, that’s also the worst mark for the club since the last promotion to Primera División. In order to find a worse mark it is necessary to go back to the season 1971/72, moment in which Depor only had 14 goals after the first 20 games.

Besides, to mention that Depor has ended scoreless in 12 of the 20 matches played so far , which is also a record in the history of the club: 0-0 Vs Real Zaragoza (matchday 01), 0-0 at Sevilla FC (matchday 02), 0-1 at Villarreal (matchday 04), 0-2 Vs UD Almeria (matchday 05), 0-0 Vs Osasuna (matchday 07), 0-3 at Real Sociedad (matchday 08), 0-0 at RCD Mallorca (matchday 11), 0-1 at Racing Santander (matchday 13), 0-2 at Atletico Madrid (matchday 15), 0-4 Vs Barcelona (matchday 18), 0-2 at Valencia FC (matchday 19) and 0-1 at Real  Zaragoza (matchday 20).
