Lotina switches the system as he tries to find a solution to the problems of Deportivo; the Basque man recovers Lopo, but loses Laure for suspension. Meanwhile, Villarreal recovers Marcos Senna and threatens with the duo Rossi-Nilmar.

It could be the last game of Miguel Ángel Lotina at Deportivo; after four years in La Coruña the Basque man is at the brink of the abyss for the third time, and now he is searching for a reaction trying to switch back the system to a figure with four defenders. And it’s that the draw with five men at the back zone hasn’t worked lately as Depor has allowed fifteen goals within the last five liga matches.

The good news is that the Basque man is recovering Albert Lopo, who missed the last two liga games due to a Soleus problem; the Basque started the week working at the top and he will be a starter on Sunday’s game against Villarreal (Riazor, 19h00 CET).

But Lotina is losing Laureano Sanabria ‘Laure’, the Madrilenian picked his fifth yellow card of the season in the past game at Getafe and is now suspended. Depor’s coach already announced that Claudio Morel will claim his spot. The Paraguayan doesn’t play in liga since the disastrous game at Real Madrid (1-6, October 3).

It isn’t clear yet if Lotina will use a 4-2-3-1 scheme or if instead he is thinking of a draw with three pivotes: 4-3-2-1, and on Wednesday’s training he surprised everybody as the team tested a 4-4-2 scheme. The only thing for sure is the composition of the defensive line. With Aranzubia at the goal, Manuel Pablo performing on the right, Morel playing on the left and the duo Lopo-Colotto at the centre.

This defensive line was testes on Wednesday’s training, though later the coach replaced Colotto with Aythami Artiles. The rest is still uncertain, mainly because both Ruben Perez and Adrian will join the team until this day after been concentrated with Spain’s U-21 squad.

As it was mentioned before , on Wednesday the coach tested a 4-4-2 figure, with Juan Rodriguez and Antonio Tomás as the two pivotes in the formation, while the other positions were rotated between Juan Dominguez, Javito, Pablo Álvarez, Desmarets, Xisco and Riki. Lassad remained out as he was having some muscular problems, though he will be available for Sunday.

Neither new signing José Sand was tested in the trainings, but Lotina said the day before that there was a high chance to see him picked for the clash. The coach sidelined him in the past game against Getafe as the Argentine wasn’t fit to play, but on this week he admitted that the striker has been working at the top. Which means that Lotina has the tough decision of, for the first time, been forced to choose between five attackers: Adrian, Lassad, Riki, Xisco and Sand .

Also, the inscription of Javito seems close to be fulfilled; the winger was going to be a starter in the past game with Getafe, but his CTI (International Transfer Certificate) didn’t arrive on time. However, on Wednesday, Antonio Calzado, an official from Greek club Aris told to Radio Onda Cero that the papers were already sent, therefore the issue should be solved within the next hours.

Another good news for Lotina is that he only has the casualties for injury reasons of Guardado (muscular) and Saul (knee). The Mexican is in Barcelona trying to solve his thigh problem, while the mysterious injury of Saul still without a clear diagnosis. Meanwhile, Antonio Tomás (hamstring) and Pablo Álvarez are already available after missing the last clash at the Alfonso Pérez coliseum.

At Villarreal, coach Juan Carlos Garrido is welcoming back midfielder Marcos Senna, the Brazilian hasn’t played on this year as he sustained a hamstring injury in December during a Copa clash against Valencia FC. He started to train during the week and might be picked for the clash at the Riazor.

Besides, Villarreal will have its two top scorers in La Coruña: Giuseppe Rossi and Nilmar. The Brazilian returned in the past game against Levante after surpassing a meniscus problem, and it must be said that both players combined have scored 22 goals in liga, which is the third best mark for a couple at Primera División, just behind Messi-Villa (Barcelona, 38 goals) and Cristiano Ronado-Higuain (Real Madrid 31 goals).

The only three casualties for injury reasons at the squad are defender Ángel López (knee ligaments), striker Marco Rubén (stress fracture) and second keeper Juan Carlos (knee sprain); the trio was already discarded for the game against Depor, actually Ángel will no longer play on this season after going through surgery.
