LACK OF DISCIPLINE?

30 Apr 2006
It's true that the Galicians are suffering a lot due to key absences caused by the injuries to (Valer??n, Andrade, Taborda, Juanma...), but the suspensions are also impeding the plans of coach Caparr??s. These circumstances are affecting Deportivo’ Uefa Cup qualification aspirations.

In 35 liga matchdays Deportivo has obtained 107 yellow cards and five expulsions, the number of yellow cards is a record for the club, the past record was established in the season 2000-2001, they were booked 100 times and they also achieved seven red cards. It's true that the long list of casualties due to injuries have affected Caparr??s' planning, but the absences caused by suspensions have also affected his work.

During the last three matches (Sevilla, C??diz and Celta) Caparr??s had to reinvent his defensive line due to the suspensions (Coloccini, Sergio, Munitis, De Guzm??n, Manuel Pablo, V?ctor was nearly required to appear on the right side defense for the derby against Celta, a situation that wasn't converted into reality since H?©ctor recovered from his physical condition prior to the game. However, these constant lineup modifications are affecting the clubs performance, a fact that could be compared with the clubs recent results: Depor wasn't able to achieve a win in those three games.

Coloccini (2), De Guzm??n (1), Manuel Pablo (1) and Munitis (1) are the players that have been expelled in this liga season. The 107 yellow cards  were handed to: Duscher (15), Munitis (11), Capdevila (9), De Guzm??n (8), Andrade (8), Juanma (8), Manuel Pablo (6), Trist??n (6), Coloccini (5), Sergio (5), V?ctor 4), C?©sar (3), Scaloni (3), R??ben Castro (2), Romero (2), Arizmendi (2), H?©ctor (2), Iago (2), Molina (2), Taborda (1), Xisco (1) Gallardo (1) and Iv??n Carril (1).

The case that worries the most is Fabricio Coloccini, the Argentinean has accumulated 5 yellow cards and has been sent off twice (excluding the expulsion in the Copa Del Rey. The same Caparr??s admitted after the derby with Celta that he must address the situation with the players. "We have to calm down ourselves. It's true that the players are the only ones that know the sensations they feel on the pitch, but we will analyse these predicaments."

The Sevillian coach is obligated to search for alternatives in order to face the game against Espanyol. Coloccini is suspended as a result of his red card and Duscher has accumulated five yellow cards, therefore Caparr??s has to search for an alternative to cover midfield and the centre of defence. Probably De Guzm??n and Romero will be selected for the job. For the fourth consecutive time, Caparr??s has to improvise... maybe it is time to see some discipline in the Galician squad.
