Deportivo has been stroke by a large wave of injuries that it is particularly affecting the defensive zone; the last defender to fell down is Ze Castro, while Morel is now doubtful. Meanwhile, Laure is hoping to be ready for Sunday.

It has been a pretty bad week for Deportivo in terms of injury cases; on Monday the Galician team defeated Real Sociedad (2-1) and clinched its best mark on the liga season with five straight matches without suffering a defeat.

But the victory had a high cost, because coach Miguel Ángel Lotina had to make his three substitutions for injury reasons. In this sense, Lassad, Riki and Antonio Tomás had to be replaced, while other two players –Lopo and Ruben Pérez- saw a fifth yellow card on the season and therefore are missing Sunday’s match against RCD Espanyol.

The saga continued during the week, and mainly affecting the defensive zone, because on Thursday it was known that right-back Laure is doubtful with an ankle sprain, while the crisis continued on Friday as central defender Ze Castro sustained a knee problem (tendonitis in the quadriceps tendon) that will keep him at bay for Sunday’s game, while left-back Claudio Morel didn’t complete the session due to an adductor problem.

Also to remember that right-back defenders Manuel Pablo (hamstring) and Diego Seoane (muscular) were already discarded for the match. This means that Lotina has central defenders Albert Lopo, David Rochela and Aythami Artiles as the only defenders totally fit to play on Sunday.

Laure was better on Friday and the Basque coach will wait until today in order to decide if the Madrilenian will be included in the list for the game against RCD Espanyol. The Madrilenian talked to reporters and said that he felt fine, ”The true is that I see myself fine. The sensations were great today and if I am better tomorrow, then surely I will be fit to play.”

Morel will also wait until today’s training in order to see how he feels. In the end it is clear that Lopo and Aythami will be the two starters at the centre of the defense, while the right-back position is pending on the status of Laure, because if the Madrilenian isn’t ready then the spot will probably be for Rochela, who already performed there with Deportivo B and Juvenil A squads.

The situation at the left side is similar, Lotina will check the condition of Morel during the last training before the trip to Catalonia, if the Paraguayan isn’t ready then the spot could be for an emergency solution like Desmarets or Guardado.

It was speculated that Depor’s coach could be forced to pick defenders from Deportivo B like Diego Vieytes, Raul Garcia, Fran Gonzalez or even Juvenil A Pablo Ínsua, but none of them were called for Saturday’s training, which invites to think that Lotina wants to resolve the crisis with what he currently has at the first team.

At least the good news is that other players at other positions like Antonio Tomás, Guardado and Lassad have evolved positively from their physical problems and will probably be picked for the trip to Barcelona.
