A lot has been commented about the possible exit of Lotina during the upcoming summer, but the fact is that Lendoiro usually waits until the end in order to take a final decision. Still, there are three names of coaches that have been linked with the club.

One of the biggest questing marks surrounding Deportivo La Coruña is who is going to be the coach of the team for the season 2011/12. Miguel Ángel Lotina is completing his fourth campaign at Depor’s bench and his renewal remains a mystery, just like the fate of his team during a suffered season at Primera División.

Some journalists are convinced that the Basque coach won’t continue on next season, mainly because he and president Augusto César Lendoiro haven’t talked yet of a possible renewal, but the fact is that Depor’s boss always like to wait a little longer before making an approach. Last year he signed the renewal with Lotina at the end of March, but on the year before the renewal was signed by the end of April (April 23rd, 2009). For the moment both sides have said in public that they won’t talk of a possible renewal until the team achieves the permanence.

But there are signs that the relationship of the coach with the public and the media has deteriorated; the internet forums are full of negative comments towards the coach, while the media already started to criticize his decisions. Newspaper Xornal De Galicia has been attacking him due to the recent results, while La Voz De Galicia wrote on this week a series of reports pointing to his poor decisions and changes of speech.

So, it should be a surprise to read and hear rumors linking other coaches with Deportivo; until this point three names have been mentioned as possible candidates to Depor’s bench ahead of next season: Manolo Preciado, Domingos Paciencia and Martin Lasarte.

Preciado was linked with Depor by newspaper La Voz de Asturias; the source claims that Lendoiro not only made approach to him, but also to the sporting director of the Asturian club, Emilio De Dios. The plan is to bring both men to Deportivo. De Dios is considered an expert working with low-budget clubs, while the experience of Preciado is something that Lendoiro likes. Preciado has a clause on his contract that means an automatic renewal if Sporting Gijón achieves the permanence, but the paper assures that he won’t have any problem to leave.

Meanwhile, the media is San Sebastián has been talking of a complicate operation that would take Unai Emery to Real Sociedad and Lasarte to Deportivo. Some papers in the Basque country commented that both coaches already have a verbal agreement with the clubs, while Radio Marca even mentioned a possible triple change that will also take Gregorio Manzano to Valencia FC.

The third name was also brought by Marca: Domingos José Paciência Oliveira. He is a former striker of Porto that's currently making a good season as the head coach of Portuguese club Sporting Clube de Braga, which included a great season at the UEFA Champions League qualification; reaching the competition's group stage after ousting Celtic FC (4–2 on aggregate) and Sevilla FC (5–3) in the qualifying rounds.
