NOVELTIES AT THE SQUAD

01 Apr 2011
Lotina is planning some changes at the starting eleven that will face RCD Mallorca; the defensive zone and midfield sector seem decided, while the doubts are in attack.

Coach Miguel Ángel Lotina is already planning the home match against Mallorca; since Tuesday the Basque manager is testing the alternatives at the starting eleven. The first conclusion is that he will keep the 4-2-3-1 system used in recent matches. Since last week the team has been emphasizing during the trainings the combinative football and to try to complete more shots on target –against Levante the tea only made 3- for this reason the newspapers believe that Lotina will trying to present an offensive team on Sunday, contrary to the grey image of the recent occasions.

According to the tests, it seems that the defensive zone is already decided. The main novelty is the exit of Canarian Manuel Pablo, who covered the left-back position a fortnight ago, now the spot will probably be for Claudio Morel, who has just surpassed an adductor injury. The rest is the same defensive line that lost against Levante.

Aranzubia will surely be the starting goalkeeper; Laure will be on the right-back position, while the central positions are for Lopo and Colotto. Midfield territory seem also decided and here it’s possible to find another novelty: the exit of Antonio Tomás, who during the tests was replaced by Juan Rodriguez with Ruben Pérez playing alongside him.

Rodriguez was the playmaker in the formation used in the last match played at the Riazor, and now he is delaying his position on the pitch, while Ruben has been dragging a hamstring problem since last week, same injury that prevented him from joining the U-21 team of Spain during the past weekend, but he was already fine by Tuesday.

The bigger doubts appear on the rest of the positions. Andrés Guardado arrived to Alvedro airport at the same time that the team was beginning to train, but still, the Mexican attended to the session and trained for some minutes. After the session he told to reporters that he feels fine, ”I’m back and reinforced in a moral sense. On Sunday I want to play for the fully ninety minutes, because right now the most important thing is to help the team. The team is conscious of the current situation and I’m joining the effort done on this week. After the painful defeat against Levante we must rise up the head and go forward.”

There are big chances that the Mexican will perform on the left wing against RCD Mallorca, especially since the other left winger at the team, Yves Desmarets , is out with a knee injury. Adrian also has big options of taking part of the starting eleven despite playing with Spain’s U-21 team on Monday, the Asturian will probably keep performing on the right wing.

The bigger doubts are in the playmaking and striker’s role, because Lotina has plenty options for both spots. For the playmaker’s position the Basque trainer has four choices: Juan Dominguez, Valerón, Michel and Lassad. Meanwhile, there are three candidates for the spot of central attacker: Xisco, Riki and Sand.
