THE SQUAD FOR MALAGA

09 Apr 2011
Lotina has released the list of players for the game against Malaga CF, but keeps the secret about the lineup; some say that he will keep the 4-2-3-1, others that the draw will be switched to a 4-3-2-1.

On Friday coach Miguel Ángel Lotina released the list of nineteen players for the game against Málaga CF; it should have been a hard decision for him as there were no injury cases at the squad. As it was expected, Yves Desmarets wasn’t picked because the player just returned to train on this week after been dragging an adductor injury.

The unlucky players that weren’t picked for tactical reasons are Michel Herrero, Juca, Saúl Fernandez, Ze Castro and José Sand; the first four men are the same that were discarded for the previous meeting against RCD Mallorca, while Argentine Sand spent that game sited on the bench and now he is staying in La Coruña.

Still, the Basque coach hasn’t tested yet any lineup for the game. The team will train today behind closed doors at the Riazor (09h30 CET) and then will travel to Andalusia; so Lotina will test the formation for the match during this last training session.

There are different rumours about the scheme that Lotina might use; Sportpaper AS was informing that the coach is thinking of a 4-3-2-1 figure; with the same defensive line used against Mallorca: Aranzubia, Laure, Colotto, Lopo and Manuel Pablo.

The novelties in this scheme are at midfield, Lotina would use a line of three midfielders, with Ruben Pérez at the centre, Juan Rodriguez on the right and Andrés Guardado on the left. Then Lotina would put two playmakers, and for those positions he has four candidates: Lassad, Adrian, Valerón and Juan Dominguez. Finally, Xisco would stay at the centre of the attack.

Radio Galega was also predicting a 4-3-2-1 scheme, but for this source Lassad is a fixed player for one of the playmaker spots, the other is disputed between Pablo Álvarez and Adrian López.

Meanwhile, newspaper La Voz de Galicia predicts that Lotina will keep using a 4-2-3-1 figure, and that Antonio Tomás might the novelty at midfield, the Cantabrian was on the bench for the past meeting with Mallorca, while the big doubt would be the name of the player on the right wing. La Voz also suggests that Valerón won’t be a starter although the coach was heavily criticized during the week for not admitting the importance of the Canarian in past games.

List of picked players for the game against Malaga:
Goalkeepers: Aranzubia and Manu
Defenders: Laure, Colotto, Lopo, Manuel Pablo, Aythami and, Morel
Midfielders: Rubén Pérez, Antonio Tomás, Juan Rodríguez, Juan Domínguez, Andrés Guardado, Valerón and Pablo Álvarez
Strikers: Riki, Adrián, Lassad and Xisco
