Terrible season for Riki, late on Thursday it was informed that the striker has suffered a hamstring strain injury, which will keep him at bay for at least three weeks. It’s his sixth physical problem on this campaign.

Iván Sánchez-Rico Soto ‘Riki’ is again out of action after the latest scans confirmed that he sustained a hamstring strain injury in a muscle of his left hip. The injury occurred on Wednesday’s training. The club’s doctors informed that the problem has nothing to do with his previous injuries; they didn’t confirm the time that the player needs for a full recovery,  but this kind of injury needs at least three weeks to heal, which means that the striker will at least miss the matches against Racing Santander, Hércules CF and Atletico Madrid.

It has been a pretty tough year for Riki as the ex-Getafe man is suffering his sixth physical problem on this season; all started at the beginning of the liga competition as he fell down during the match against Getafe at the Riazor (matchday 03, Sept 20); he just spent ten minutes on the pitch, but, it was enough time to sustain an injury on his right thigh, later it was reported as a grade two muscular injury, which sidelined the player for three weeks.

Then, two days before the home game with Malaga (matchday 11, Nov 21) the Madrilenian attacker was feeling sick and was rushed to the hospital, and it was known that he had appendicitis. The striker was operated and missed almost all the remaining games on the year. Even Lotina joked about the event saying that in ten years of career he has never lost a player for this reason.

Riki returned into competition for the final game in 2010, which was the first-leg in Copa Del Rey against Cordoba (Dec 21); that night the pitch at the Nuevo Arcángel stadium was more like a pool rather than a football ground, and it seemed to be risky to allow his return, but he was a starter; in the end he scored a goal and left the pitch at minute 30 after suffering a knock. Later the club’s doctors reported that his exit was for precaution reasons as he player only suffered a muscular contracture.

However, the problem was bigger than the doctors expected and Riki didn’t return to train until the end of January; he was on the bench for the clash against Sevilla FC (matchday 21, Jan 29) and finally played a few minutes as in the following week he replaced Michel at halftime of the visit to Getafe CF (matchday 22, Feb 05).

Since that point Riki was a regular substitute in the formations of Lotina, until he fell down injured again during home clash with Real Sociedad (matchday 27, March 07). On that game he was sat on the bench and jumped into the grass at minute 12 in order to replace Lassad, who got injured, but Riki picked an injury too that was later diagnosed as an adductor problem. It occurred at minute 55 of that game and the player had to be replaced by Desmarets.

Finally, the Madrilenian returned a fortnight ago and entered as a substitute for the home game with RCD Mallorca (matchday 30, Apr 03) and also during the home clash with Malaga CF (matchday 31, Apr 10). He didn’t have any physical problem on those games, until suffering the new setback on last Wednesday’s training.

On Thursday’s night, during an interview at Radio Galega, Lotina was trying to understand what it is happening to his striker, ”It’s curious that all the injuries of Riki aren’t occurring at the end of the game, just when he could be more exhausted, and neither are occurring at the start, just when it could happen for not warming up properly, neither are the product of a knock, so the doctors are still trying to explain what’s happening. It isn’t for a lack of training, because he has been part of the group since three weeks ago, so I do believe that something is causing this and we don’t know the reason.”
