REVIEW: CONQUENSE 2 – FABRIL 1 (SEGUNDA)

22 Apr 2011
Deportivo loses again playing away from home and still facing a complicate situation in order to achieve the permanence. This time the Galician youngsters made a nice effort, but the punctual errors at defense cost the three points.

BEFORE THE GAME
Coach Tito Ramallo was facing the game with several casualties; more precisely six youngsters: Richi, Chirri, Dinis (injured); Dani, Rochela (suspended) and Seoane (with the first team). The main problem was at midfield as the coach was losing his two favourite players for the pivote positions, Dani and Dinis, in the end Ramallo opted to play with Liechtensteiner Martín Büchel and Juvenil A player Fernando Losada.

It was a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Felipe Ramos at the goal; Diego Vieytes covered the right-back position, Raul Garcia returned from suspension and played on the left, while the central defenders were Fran and Pablo Ínsua; Martin and Fernando played at the centre of the pitch, Diego Vela covered the right wing, Añon performed on the left, Juan Carlos was the playmaker and Dioni was the central attacker.

The rival was UB Conquense, also known as” La Balompédica”, a club from Castilla-La Mancha that was facing the game as a final as it was living inside the relegation zone and that has spent the previous nine matchdays without achieving a victory. The main reference for coach Tino Cabrera are midfielder Gerardo Berodia (7) and striker Juan Carlos Belencoso (8), who are the top-scorers at the team. Ex-Fabril Juan Antonio Pedre ´Juachi’ is part of the first squad, but he didn’t participate on this game.

THE MATCH
The torment for Fabril playing away from home continues; Ramallo’s team suffered its ninth loss in sixteen matches played away from Abegondo, though this time the youngsters displayed a more attractive football compared to previous away games. But in the end two distractions cost the goals that meant a painful defeat against a direct rival for the salvation.

And it’s that Deportivo B made a good presentation, mainly in the first part, everybody feared that the couple Fernando- Martín Büchel, who were playing together for the first time, was going to fail, but the true is that it brought balance to a team that had the ball possession and some scoring opportunities; at least it was a better offer than the one proposed by Conquense, side the spent big part of the game depending in long throws searching for anybody.

But the locals were lucky enough to score an early goal; it came after Cristian Sánchez seized a moment of distraction at Fabril’s defense to drill a pass to Juan Carlos Belencoso, who later surpassed the mark of Fran to cross Felipe Ramos and conquer his ninth goal on the season.

The goal didn’t change the script of the game as Depor B was still having the ball possession, while Conquense was relying on the direct game. The visitors had two clear chances, first after Raúl released a cross that Fran sent out close to the crossbar (19’), and then it was Dioni who a drilled a shot that was saved by local keeper Eduard Castro (34’).

Juan Carlos was the leading force in the attacks of Fabril, and before half-time he assisted Vieytes, who made a long run on the right wing to end releasing a cross that Dioni sent out again. In the stoppage time the locals were close to score twice, first with a shot of Cristian Sánchez and later with a header of defender Juan Bardal after a corner-kick; both chances were saved by Felipe Ramos.

Things changed for the second part, because Fabril started to get desperate and it gave enough room to the locals, now ‘La Balompédica’ was finding the cracks that allowed to enjoy of four clear opportunities within the first fifteen minutes on this half.

Just seconds after the kick-off, Berodia released a drilling shot that was stopped by Felipe Ramos, later Cristian Sánchez made a long run and assisted Berodia, but the finals shot of the striker was deflected by Fran (50’). Then Cristian Sánchez was the one that had an attempt to score with a shot that passed over the crossbar.

Ramallo didn’t like what he was watching an ordered a double change: Croatian Stefan Deak and striker Jona entered for the duo at midfield, Martín Büchel and Fernando. It was risky bet as the draw was changed to a 4-4-2, with central defender Deak now playing at midfield, just behind Juan Carlos.

It seemed to be a move trying to regain control on midfield territory, but it just helped to stick the team at the centre of the pitch, because the game turned to be imprecise, with long throws and the aerial game as the main strategies for both teams. It was in these confusing moments that the second goal arrived.

Deak was booked after committing a tackle from behind at midfield, the resulting free-kick from 40 meters turned to be a high cross to the area from Bardal, Vieytes failed to clear the ball with the head, and instead Gerardo Berodia controlled the ball entering into the box to end beating Felipe Ramos with a shot to his near post.

If the first goal didn’t affect Fabril, then the second killed its spirit, because the Galician youngsters did nothing in the remaining thirty minutes of the second part. Actually, Conquense was closer to score a third goal, but neither Belencoso nor Aday Benitez were able to capitalize their opportunities. For the final seven minutes Stopira replaced Raul, it was just a modification trying to refresh the defensive zone.

AFTER THE GAME
Deportivo B continues with its agony playing away from home, despite displaying good football in the first part the team ended allowing two goals and suffering a hard defeat against a direct rival. Now Depor B is 16th at the standings, which means to occupy the relegation playoff spot against another Segunda B club. Still the situation is tied at the standings as the 11th spot is just four points above the Galicians. On Sunday the team faces a very important meeting as it will host Atletico Madrid B at Abegondo (12h00 CET).

Comments of Tito Ramallo: ”Conquense was the better side in the game. We allowed an early goal and it marked the match, especially since everybody was anxious at the beginning, there was a lot of pressure and we didn’t know how to overcome this scenario, though later we were better at the end of the first half. In the second part we felt the six casualties at the team, because it conditions you at the moment of making the changes. We weren’t able to do anything and for this reason the final result was fair. Now, with only four games remaining, everybody is going to suffer, there will be no exceptions.”
