Depor’s captain Manuel Pablo will play at Deportivo until the year 2013 after signing a two-year renewal on Friday; in this way he will reach the incredible number of 15 seasons wearing Depor’s shirt.

The sadness for the relegation still striking Deportivo, and perhaps the only good news at this moment are related to the familiar faces that will stay at the club during the next season. The first one is Juan Carlos Valerón, who already accepted the challenge of been playing at Segunda.

The other is captain Manuel Pablo, who will probably retire at Deportivo; on Friday the captain of the Galician team signed a two-year renewal that will keep him linked with the club until the year 2013. Previously, he earned a one-year renewal after playing at least 25 official matches during the season that has just ended, but president Augusto César Lendoiro decided to double the contract of the Canarian player, who will be 37 at the moment of saying good-bye.

The act took place at the Playa Club, during the event Manuel Pablo explained the negotiations to reporters, ”Everything was fast; we just had one meeting and later we realized that there was a nice communication. We talked and then signed the deal. Since the first moment I wanted to continue. I am feeling motivated, hopeful and with enough fuel to continue, which is the important thing.”

Meanwhile, Lendoiro was remembering that the renewal of Valerón and Manuel Pablo are meaning the base for the future, ”We are putting the pillars of Deportivo’s spinal cord ahead of the next years, just in a season that’s special as several players are ending contract and we still don’t know if they will continue or not. We are satisfied with this agreement; it was an issue that we wanted at the club and that was analyzed with Antonio Morales [the agent of the player] since a while ago. We wanted to bring confidence to the players that have meant a lot for us. He is a man that has lived all the great moments and we wanted to bring calmness to him, for this reason it is a great satisfaction as we’re thanking him and his agent for this agreement.

Manuel Pablo arrived from UD Las Palmas for the season 1998/99, he was part of a 1.3 million Euros package deal that included the transfer of ´Turu' Flores. By the time the defender was 22; soon he proved his value and was even considered as the best right-back defender in Spain, reason why he was close to move to Real Madrid, but an inopportune injury sidelined him for almost an entire season.

He stayed at Deportivo and turned to be one of the references at the team; currently the Arucas-born player, and captain of the team, is the third men with more matches at the Galician club: 320 (including the game with Valencia). He is just behind Fran (435) and Mauro Silva (369). It will be difficult to reach the top of that prestigious list, but Manuel Pablo will have enough room to pass Mauro Silva and claim the second spot.
