WHAT WILL HAPPEN WITH ADRIAN?

28 May 2011
On Friday, Atletico Madrid was confirming the signing of Adrian, but just one day later Deportivo was announcing the renewal of the striker. What’s going on?

New polemic case with a player at Deportivo La Coruña, if last season the club had a battle for the renewal of Adrian López ´Piscu´, the defender; now, the club is having the same battle with the other Adrian López at the team, the striker.

The Asturian attacker is a tasty option for any club at Primera División as he is ending contract in June; Adrian was the Pichichi at the team with eleven goals scored between liga and Copa Del Rey and also provided four assists, and he is only 23.

Since January it was rumoured that he was negotiating with Atletico Madrid, and on Friday the sporting director of the Madrilenian club, García Pitarch, admitted at Radio Onda Cero that his club had closed the signing of the striker.

But on Friday, Deportivo announced that on May 25 the club had fulfilled a clause in the contract of the striker that allows his renewal for one more year. The clause dictates that if the club raises the salary of the striker in 7% plus the inflation rate, then it has the right to extend the contract of the striker for one more season.

Adrian admitted a few month ago the existence of that clause and even said that he was going to respect the decision of the Galician club, however it isn’t know what are his thoughts now that the club has suffered the relegation to Segunda División. The same Deportivo announced that if any club wants to hire the striker, then it has to pay five million Euros as compensation.

The point is that there are a lot of comments related to the validity of what Depor is doing, because according to some lawyers and the Spanish Players Association (AFE) the clause is illegal as it is bases in an agreement between the Primera clubs and the AFE that is no longer valid, because the agreement is ending in June and therefore it is no longer possible to prolong a contract ending on those days.

All appoints that it is a strategy of Deportivo in order to obtain something for Adrian (five million Euros), which is highly probable as Atletico will want to reach an agreement with Deportivo before going to a courthouse for this issue. Anyhow, the player himself still hast to explain his position on this contradictory case.

OLTRA CLOSE TO SIGN FOR DEPOR
On Friday, Depor Sport admitted that the club is already negotiating with José Luis Oltra in order to be the new coach of Deportivo. And during the day Radio Marca announced that the deal is almost done and that the Valencian man is going to sign for one year with the option of an automatic renewal if he is able to achieve the promotion. The official announcement could be made on Saturday and the coach could even be presented on Sunday.
