Central defender Aythami will stay at Deportivo until the year 2015; the Canarian arrived t to the club in 2007, but it was until this season that he played with regularity at Depor. It is the second renewal made within the last month.

The club announced on Wednesday the renewal of central defender Aythami Artiles; his contract was lasting until 2012, but it was extended for three more seasons, meaning that the Canarian player will stay linked with Deportivo until June of 2015. Aythami commented to canaldeportivo.com that, ”I am glad with the renewal and hope that will stay at the club for a long time.”

It is the second renewal made at Deportivo within the last month, precisely the previous extension of contract was the one of David Rochela, another central defender that hopes to make a step forward on the campaign 2011/12.

Aythami arrived to Deportivo for the season 2007/08 coming from Las Palmas UD, and the true is that it was an unfortunate year for him, because Lotina chose him for the home liga game against Recreativo de Huelva after Lopo suffered a back injury, it's true the whole Depor's squad was terrible that Wednesday's evening (the team lost 0-2 at the Riazor), but Lotina was especially unhappy with the performance of the Canarian defender, reason why he didn't play any other official game during the year 2007 and just witnessed how Fabril's Adrián López 'Piscu' was earning a spot at the squad.

Then Aythami was loaned at the middle of the season to Xérez CD, deal that was extended for the campaign 2008/09 and this time he achieved a promotion to Primera División. The defender stayed at Xérez one more year and had a solid performance there although the Andalusians suffered the relegation to Segunda.

And for the season that has just ended Aythami returned to Deportivo; at the beginning he barely played, but the picture changed as soon as Lotina decided to switch into the scheme with five defenders; in the end he took part in nineteen liga matches and even scored two goals.

The renewal of Aythami is considered as an important move at Deportivo, because with the departure of Albert Lopo now there is a gap at the centre of the defense alongside Diego Colotto, and the intention of new coach Jose Luis Oltra is to see Aythami competing with Rochela for that position.
