BRUNO GAMA SIGNS FOR DEPOR

28 Jul 2011
Lendoiro said on Tuesday that Depor was close to sign a new player during this week, and less than 24 hours later the club was announcing the arrival of Portuguese Bruno Gama, a winger that can play in several positions in attack.

Another quick operation at Deportivo; on Wednesday Depor Sport was announcing that winger Bruno Alexandre Vilela Gama was close to join the club thanks to the help of agent Jorge Mendes, the same one that helped in the signing of Salomão. And just a few hours later canaldeportivo.com was confirming the operation with Portuguese club Rio Ave FC.

23-years-old Bruno Gama is a right-footed player that can perform at both wings and that can also act as a playmaker; therefore the Portuguese is the multifunctional player that coach José Luis Oltra was requesting. He is the fifth signing for the season 2011/12 after the arrivals of left-back Ayoze Díaz, left winger Salomão, centre midfielder Jesús Vázquez and goalkeeper German Lux. Now Oltra is only waiting for the arrival of a new striker and to witness the exit of the discarded players.

At the beginning the terms of this signing weren’t revealed, but later president Augusto César Lendoiro confirmed that the operation is a transfer and that the player is signing a four-year contract. But Depor’s boss refused to talk of the payment that was made, because “We can’t talk of the amount due to the confidentiality of the deal.”

However, Lendoiro assured that, “We have the right to inscribe the player, but the transfer rights are shared, therefore the participation of the club is a future sell is relatively low.” On the past week it was commented that Rio Ave was requesting €500,000 to Real Zaragoza for his services, so it is rumoured that the payment made by Depor is lesser to this amount. In any case, this is the first time in three years in which Depor pays for a normal transfer during a summer window. The last case was Diego Colotto in 2008 (€2.5 million).

The player passed the medicals on Wednesday’s morning and signed his four-deal contract; then he was presented in the afternoon at the Playa Club. During the event Lendoiro told to reporters that despite that the signing might look like easy, the true is that it was complicated, “Ernesto Bello is the one that suggested his name; he has been tracking him for a while; the true is that things were complicated before last night, and we must thank the effort of the player’s agents. We didn’t think it was going to be so quick.”

Lendoiro also said that, “I want to thank the player, because he had bigger offers coming from other Spanish and foreign clubs, and because he thinks that Deportivo is the right place to exhibit his skills as a first level player. He will have a great career in an international sense, and clearly the team is now stronger than the one we had at Primera División during the past season.”

Meanwhile, Bruno Gama was explaining why he chose to sign for Depor, “It was the project that put more interest in my signing. It is a team with great history and with very good players. I am arriving in order to help Deportivo to achieve its goal; I am willing and ready to win the games. About my position; I am right-footed, but can play at both wings.”
