RUBEN PEREZ LEAVES DEPORTIVO

01 Sep 2011
Midfielder Ruben Pérez has finally found the door out at Deportivo; he was searching for a Primera club and ends at Getafe CF, though it isn’t part of a swap deal for Borja Fernandez.

After all the comments and gossips, Andalusian centre midfielder Rubén Pérez del Marmol is leaving Deportivo in order to join Getafe CF. The operation turned to be Depor’s soap-opera case of the summer as it was expected to be a complex double loan deal that’s was brining Borja Fernandez to Deportivo and sending Rubén to Getafe. But in the end both deals took place separately.

On the past week it was commented that the deal was meaning €500,000 for Deportivo, this since the player still had one year on the loan deal signed with Atletico Madrid, but later Lendoiro confirmed that the final agreement is to receive part of a future transfer if the midfielder signs for Getafe after the loan spell.

The president was asked at midnight -he gave a press conference at Plaza de Pontevedra- why the operation took so long, and he answered that, “Atletico was asking for some things, and if a negotiation is difficult when you have two sides, imagine if you have three parties involved. Things got complicated in the end.”

The exit of Ruben Perez was completed at 11PM on Wednesday’s night and, apparently, the player wasn’t expecting for it as he was already mentalized that he was staying. After leaving plaza de Pontevedra, the player told to Radio Galega that, "I am leaving to Getafe, and I am leaving with sorrow. My career can change now."

Rubén had a solid performance during the season that he spent at Depor; he was even named as the RCDLC.com best newcomer of the season 2010/11. However it’s also true that it was one of the worst seasons in terms of new signings, all the new arrivals had a discrete performance and never had an impact in a team that was desperately needing for more power in attack; in any case he can be considered as an exception, and it’s that he had a consistent participation in the lineups of Lotina.

It is true that the Sevillan midfielder was criticized throughout the season as he was losing the ball at key moments, which compromised the defense, but it should be considered as part of his learning process as this was just Ruben’s first full season at Primera División. He played in 32 of the 38 liga encounters and turned to be the fourth player with more minutes on the liga campaign, just beyond Colotto, Lopo and Aranzubia, trio that composed the spinal cord at defense.

Pérez was mainly a defensive choice at the centre of the pitch, but he also showed some skills to shot from mid-distance; he completed eleven shots on target with long or mid-distance attempts, though he was unable to score.
