RED ALERT FOR BRUNO GAMA

15 Sep 2011
Right winger Bruno Gama was the signing that left the better impression during the pre-season, but a groin injury sidelined him from the first matches at Segunda, now he could end at the surgery room.

Bruno Gama was expected to be back for the meeting with Sabadell; he hasn’t debuted yet on the Segunda season after picking a groin injury during the Teresa Herrera match with Sevilla CF (August 18). Further scans determined that the Portuguese winger sustained a tear of the adductor tendon on his right thigh.

He was ruled out for three weeks, but since the beginning of September his return has been delayed week after week. The player finally joined the trainings on the past week and it was commented that could be available for the meeting with Sabadell CE.

But on Tuesday he suffered a relapse during the training session; the doctors made new scans and determined that the injury hasn’t healed yet. Then he discussed the possibility of a surgery, but instead decided to follow a conservative treatment using a healing therapy known as Platelet-rich plasma (PRP). PRP is a technique that contains -and releases through degranulation- several different growth factors and other cytokines that stimulate healing of bone and soft tissue.

This technique is used as it reduces the period of time for a full recovery, and because it reduces the risk of any surgery. The player will follow the treatment for the next four weeks, and then the case will be restudied. In one month the doctors will analyze if the treatment has solved the problem, if not the player will have to pass through surgery.

If Bruno has to be operated, then he will probably be out for at least three months. It is a case that recalls the situation with former midfielder Michel, a new signing that missed the half of the past season due to knee surgery.

INJURY CRISIS
The true is that the start of season has been a real nightmare for the club’s doctors, at this point there are fourteen injury cases between the first team and Deportivo B. Currently Depor’s first team is dealing with eight cases: Xisco (muscular), Ayoze (ankle sprain), Manuel Pablo, Riki, Pablo Álvarez, Saúl (the four of them hamstring) and Bruno Gama (groin).

Meanwhile, coach Tito Ramallo is dealing with six injuries at Deportivo B: central defenders Diego Vieytes (shoulder), Uxio Marcos (sinusitis), winger Victor Díaz (ankle sprain), centre midfielder Ricardo Fernández ‘Richi’ (groin), attacker Iago Beceiro (muscular) and Cameroonian winger Julen Nddombo (groin).
